I have deleted a few of my posts having thought better of them awhile later....please leave this feature in as mexico can be walking on eggshells experience at the best of times and I have realized a few times perhaps a post would be best not made public....or I was really drunk and shouldn't have posted it at all.....kidding...but it's nice to be able to edit...spelling...out of line comments etc.

This is something that's really covered in the features of the forum software. While I am able to customize the code with XMB, it makes it a royal pain to upgrade the software later - so I typically (these days) work with what is supplied in the "standard" releases. No hacks, plugins, etc.

One of the other forum software packages out there (I believe it's vBulletin - maybe others as well) only allows edits for a temporary period of time, then after that, you can't edit/delete/etc.

While I semi-covet that feature, the benefits of running XMB still seem to outweigh migrating to other forum software by a great deal.

I've put in a feature suggestion with XMB regarding this. We'll see what their take on it is. XMB is under new "ownership" as of recently - which bears watching as well.

I completely understand the reasons for not wanting to customize the software yourself. In your shoes, I would make exactly the same decision. Thanks.

Hose A,

I have NO idea why people say you have no sense of humor. For the record, I think you have a very sharp wit, AND a great sense of humor.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

And, I might add, ethics to top it off.

P.S. I'll be expecting that check in the mail soon.:biggrin:

Another vote for what lencho said:

I like the status quo which enables me to continually retreat and 'edit', so as I can tone it down a lil'
otherwise ... trust me ... I could end up making some 'online enimas'

My vote would go to not having the option of deleting posts at all, or at least to have deletions subject to a three-minute rule, as someone [was it Paulina?] suggested.

Being able to alter a post after somebody else has responded to it, to me, is a basic flaw in communication. You should NOT be able to retroactively change the reason, or the cause, of an argument. If something gets changed, all that follows becomes invalid.

This is exactly why I sort of quit pouring my soul into this forum. Especially in Off-Topic. What's the sense of having a dialogue if then you change what you had said?
