We drove through the border on Saturday and saw numerous tourist Police cars on the toll and free road between Tijuana and Rosarito. I guess that's a start, they needed to do something.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I commented to a cop in one of the new Tourist Police Dodge Chargers that it was hot. He was enjoying his ride for sure, but didn't speak any English... hmmm.

BTW- I called the new tourist Nextel number the other day when a truck got stuck trying to get over a sand berm the city put there to block trucks from the beach during the spring break. They answered on the first alert, said they would send someone out, but never did. He did call me back to tell me no one was found when they went out there to look. He lied- no one ever came becasue I was watching (No, I don't help the stupid by helping them dig their cars out of the sand any more).

It's going to take another person getting run over and killed before they get serious about keeping the trucks and ATVS off the beach. 10 year olds screaming down the beach in quads (without helmets no less) just a few feet from people isn't smart. Then again, the lifeguards race by on their quads at 40 MPH without flags, lights or sirens- so no one is safe from them either. And while lI'm on the subject- has anyone EVER seen a lifeguard here actually swimming? I see them pull up to people in the water in their trucks and tell them to get out, but have never seen them training in the water or even making a water rescue. Last summer an 18 year old friend of my family drowned in front of my house. The lilfeguards looked for 30 minutes with their jetskis and then gave up and went away. They said the body would wash up in a few days (and it did). I can't imagine what they are thinking when this is what they do for a living. They would search day and night in the USA before telling a family tough luck.
