Wishing and hoping the best for Manolo!

A reminder of how dangerous a place with almost no traffic can be to baja travelers.

If it's not too personal I would like to know what happened.

There are crosses and wreckage all along the highway. It would be helpful to know how these accidents happen. That is, what type of accidents are the most common and on down to the least likely. For example:

being clipped by an oncoming truck
driving at night
intoxicated driver drifts into your lane
not seeing approaching car on blind curve
driving too fast on a blind curve
cattle crossing or asleep on highway
not wearing seat belts

It would help to know when danger is approaching.

I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my hurting heart. Manolo is a devout catholic who never drinks a drop of alcohol, smokes or drives fast. The accident happened at 7:30 in the morning on that nasty pot holed road coming into Vizcaino from Asuncion...best we can understand was the driver swerved to miss a pothole and somehow flipped over...they were not going fast either. Don't know yet if they had seatbelts on or not. So you see folks bad roads=dead people another reason why we want better roads...now..Manolo was flown to La Paz and wasn't expected to see the new dawn...but he did...he has a punctured lung, internal bleeding and is on life support...our phone rang about 20 times today and each time my heart dropped...well a few minutes ago, I heard news that he started responding...this is very good news...so it looks as if all our healing energy and prayers are working...keep up the great work amigos...I love you ALL

Thanks for the U2U---so glad to hear that Mimi and Ismael are with him and soooo glad to hear he is responding.

We are afraid that we will have to live and deal with those nasty potholes for many years to come. They keep filling them and it does not last long.

It will be easy for some to analyse all the ways maybe the driver swerved too quickly and or too sharply, but hindsight is of no value. But it sometimes convinces one how the accident that happened to another, won't happen to them. We have come too close too many times to not understand.

Just sending more positive thoughts Manolo's way.

Diane and John

I want to pass on this story related to me this morning. Manolo was on life support, cold, blue, bloated...corpse like...and his family couldn't bear to even look at him. His wife last night was by his bedside softly telling him all the people who were pulling for him and suddenly some color came into his face and he started sweating!!!! She was overwhelmed with happiness...it was like he came back...doctors say the response is a positive one...very slight but positive...lets hope he can hang on and stay with us now. They also determined he doesn't seem to have a head injury which is great news too. We all finally slept last night and I feel Manolo is in there somewhere and striving to remain in this world. Thanks to all of you praying for him...it feels like a tug of war with God...WE need Manolo with us! Thank you Tiomiguel for your thoughtful action...I'm sure assistance will help with travel expenses, food, lodging etc.

That does sound like improvement. I will continue to send healing thoughts his way.
