New Search Device

Just read on one of the other forums about a new search device the Mexican military is using at the check point about 20 miles north of San Felipe. They line the vehicles up to be searched under some kind of tent and a soldier then walks up and down the line with a thing that looks like a water devining rod. If the device doesn't give off any signal the vehicles are allowed to proceed. From what was said on the forum, they no longer go in and out of the vehicles searching. Any of you techies out there have any idea:light: what this new thing is?:?: One answer was that the initials for the device are "DELVED"? Decronification Electronic Liquid Valve Energy Detector or some such thing:?: Please no laughter.

Would really like to see a photo of the device. Generally, they are searching for large undeclared amounts of cash, narcotics and weapons/ammo.......all of which do not release any electronic signals. Would be more interesting if they used a "sniffer" type of device to look for drugs or explosives (ammo). However a 4 legged sniffer is usually best.

Bajaguy,
I bellieve you are right ... I am sure the device is a sniffer , very sensitive that detects the oder that is emitted by various drugs, and the accellerent in ammo.

I have seen them use a long handled device to look under vehicles that is nothing more than a mirror. My point for saying this is to not overlook that as a possibility.

Maybe their statistics show that most smuggled items have been hidden under vehicles, in wheel wells, taped or possibly concealed in false compartments. It would be more expedient to move the line along faster if that is the case. Maybe that checkpoint is a localized, temporary experiment.

This is not a strong opinion; just something that came to mind. Feel free to refute it.

It is definitely not the thing they use to poke and probe if it is the same thing they were using at the army stop coming into Ensenada on Sunday.

We had never seen it before, but the description of it looking something like a water devining rod is exactly what we thought at the time. One soldier kept walking up and down the line pointing this device straight ahead---we could not figure out what it was or what it was doing.

It will be interesting to know more about this device. Wish we had taken a picture

Diane

I don't think it is a viable search device or they would be using it at the border for entry into the US.

Did look like they were looking for a place to dig a well.:lol:

I am glad someone else mentioned this new interesting device---didn't want to mention it as it really sounds crazy.

Looked that way!

Note to self---keep camera in lap at all times, do not put camera away, have it on automatic for fast needed shots.

Devices

Nomads,
A few years ago at the military check going north out of San Felipe a young soldier asked me to step out of my truck. He proceeded to insert an unfolded metal coat hanger into the metal compartments behind the driver seat....he pulled it out and gave me a "knowing glance" before he sniffed the end of the wire "device"....and gave me an expression of smelling something appealing:lol::lol:

I assumed he was testing my reaction to such a high-tech inspection....we both laughed and he sent me on the way...

The device is still in the testing stages in the US. Just like new prescription drugs, test, test, test. Mexico has a more go for it type attitude.
