US Mail Service in Loreto/Nopolo and Baja Sur
Hi BajaNomads,
We've been living in Loreto for 2 yrs and we are considering opening a mail delivery service.
We have weekly service from the US all figured out. We've been using our system for a year and it has worked flawlessly.
If there is enough interest, we can include the following services:
Your US mail, magazines, catalogs, etc. delivered weekly to your home for $20 usd per month. This includes all shipping and handling. There is a
weight limit, but overweight charge is minimal. We can even provide insurance.
We can also import most items and have them shipped to your home economically in 2-3 weeks.
We started this thread to see how much interest there is.
Thank you all.

I don't live in Loretto , or I would be interested.
Just wanted to caution you that what you are doing will require a work endorsement on your Visa or you risk deportation.

Thanks CaboRon,
My wife is Mexican and the BOSS so no problem there.
If we can get this thing going here, we may include your area too.

Hi Bob and Susan,
Thanks for your reply.
As we live in Loreto, we have our system in place here. We are definitely interested in expanding the service to other places in Baja Sur. We still
could provided you service but at an increased cost to you.
Eventually we should be able to provide you with the same service available here.
You could help us, the way to make this more economical is to get enough people in your area that want the service. So ask your friends and neighbors.
Two things we didn't mention originally:
1. You get a US address to have your US mail sent to.
2. This is a one way service, we are not involved in sending mail to the US.
Thanks again.

Hi CP,
Refer to our last reply.
We can offer service to anyone in Baja Sur. What we are trying to do is provide an economical service.
If any of you interested can put a small group (5 or more) together it will significantly help keep the cost low.
Anyone that is interested send us a U2U.
Thanks

I have had an APDO (PO box) in Loreto for many years. The cost is less than 15 dlls per year. I receive our google ads checks each month, letters
from family and friends, magazines, IGFA correspondence, even products like my newly certified IGFA scales last march, and even junk mail. I don't
mean to be offensive but why would I subscribe to your service? I found a great import company called Lopez Page International who was able to
forward my importations last April within one week of receiving them. They e-mail notified me in english and spanish of the receipt of each item
because as per my request I asked them to consolidate the shipment. the rate was a competitive 35% delivered to my door and with fabulous cell phone
contact by Victor their Loreto rep. After 12 years of doing imports to Loreto, I have never had such flawless and enjoyable service.
If I were considering starting a business I would want all the input possible to help me consider doing it in the first place. once you have put
significant time into the project you have alread invested and that doesn't even consider the upstart and maintainence costs. my own business
happened completely by accident but if I were to do things over again I would know better questions to ask of myself.
for myself the biggest challenge is sending packages to the USA and unfortunately you as well as others that have tried this do not offer that. at
this time you don't need a US address to receive UPS, FEDEX, US Mail and DHL to your door as long as you have a known address in town. the public
mail system leaves much to be desired but the private paqueteria services are very efficient. Loreto is a remote location so a variety of small
paqueterias service us well but they DEFINATELY need an office. Estafeta and BajaPack are the exceptions they have an office and do a great job.

Hi Pam,
We appreciate your imput. We are glad you found something that works for you.
We also have a P.O Box at the Post Office but we are not happy with the time it took to receive our mail.
When our mail is received at our US address it is shipped via Estafeta directly to Loreto within a week. We feel much more safe and secure with
Estafeta vs. the Mexican Postal System. Last year we received a Christmas card in early February.
Also when we order items that are taxable we normally pay 15% import tax plus S&H. Depending on the item, some items have different tax rates
