Baja Safety Questions

So, I moved to Colorado for 3 yrs after my entire life in San Diego. Moving back Dec 20 and needless to say, I CANNOT WAIT for some surf trips to Baja. I have heard over the last couple years that safety is actually an issue now.

How true is this? Has it become prohibitive to go to La Fonda or the like for a quick day trip? Please tell me it ain't that bad.

Hey Doug! It's Marcus. We need to get together for lunch or something when I get there! Hope all is well.

you'll spend more hours in the border line than in the water...that's a problem!!! it's only dangerous if the bad guys pick YOU...

I subscribe to Google News alerts, so I read plenty about the border region. I always go places with others, not alone, but the people I visit with in Tijuana (Baja Crawlers 4WD club) acknowledge that there is indeed a security problem.

I have traveled throughout Latin America, and it appears that Baja is no longer an extension of the United States. Rather, it is now an extension of Latin America. That's my honest take on things.

Cool. So it sounds as if it is getting a bit worse. Ken, I see you're a jeep guy. Nice tomb raider. I traded in my taco for a rubi when I got to colorado. Maybe I'll hit you and your jeep club up for some runs if you accept new-comers. Thanks for the advice.
