this from a NOMAD------Elena de Loca:
Sorry to say I can't figure out how to start a new thread...maybe the moderators can enlighten me or simply move this post to a new thread (figured
I'd tag along the aviation thread here)...
NOTICE: Just recieved word via phone from Bill Allen of Flying Samaritans that a Cessna 182RG (tail # N5168S) was stolen out of Bay of LA this morning
approximately 4am. It's dark blue/gray/white w/ newer GPS in it. No persons were harmed during the theft.
I'm forwarding this via radio & e-mail to Ralph XE2/N6MNO at Rancho Santa Inez, Paul XE2/N6GRT at Rancho Socorrito, Patrick XF1SD at Pto Lopez
Mateos, Geary XE2/WB6PKH at Playa Burro & Dick XE2/N1zg in La Paz. Continue to spread the word.
Thanks.

I was in BOLA last night and about 4am I went for a short walk before packing to leave and did not hear anything. I am a pilot and would have noticed.

One other thing the weather at about 4am there were very low celings to the west, north and south. We left Casta Del Sol about 6 am and hit very heavy
rain on the road out to Hy 1about 3 miles out of town all the way to Hy 1 and then north for about 100 miles. When we got to Hy 1 it also looked very
bad to the south. Anyone check for an ELT signal?

what a damm shame!!
that plane was owned by a member of the flying Samaritans Foothills chapter who had just completed a clinic there over the weekend.
i won't disclose his name or specialty as i am not privy to all the CONFIRMED facts but i'd like to say thanks to the drug cartels who are not only ruining baja flying for us but who are also eliminating a lot
of free help for impoverished people. At least one buddy today in the Sams says he is not taking his plane south anymore.

Regarding: Aircraft Theft
Owner contacted BBP Monday to inform that his aircraft, a 182RG, N#5168S (serial #R18201512) was stolen early Sunday Morning at Bay of LA, Baja North.
In his words, he was part of a group of four Foothill Chapter Flying Samaritans planes that flew in on Saturday morning to work the monthly free
Medical and Dental clinic.
There were 4 planes and 19 Volunteers.
The planes were all Cessna and included a P210, T210, 182 RG, and a fixed gear 182.
When the clinic was finished on Sunday afternoon at about 1:00 PM they were driven to the airport. We then found the Cessna 182 RG to be missing.
(N5168S)
The aircraft had Barrel locks on the cabin doors and passenger door, and throttle lock on the throttle.
At that time they also noticed that an attempt was made to steal the P 210.
The Prop lock on the P 210 had been worked on and was filled with metal shavings in the barrel lock.
It took some time for us to finish cleaning out the metal shavings on the P 210 lock so they could get the prop lock open.
After contacting the local Chief of Police at Bahia De Los Angeles, they contacted the military post which is located about 1 mile north of the
airfield who indicated that their military guards heard the plane take off at 4:00 am on Sunday February 8, 2009. The plane turned off all lights as
soon as it took off, and headed South.
The Flying Samaritans have been using this airport and clinic for over 40 years with no problems. This particular Cessna 182 RG has been flying to and
landing there every month for the last 20 years.
If you see this aircraft, please contact the BBP.

WTF?
There has GOT to be a way to effectively disable an aircraft without running afoul of FAA regs. And if not, the FAA needs to approve something. This
is getting ridiculous.

I could do it, but there wouldn't be anything left of the aircraft....or the thieves.....
............which may not be a bad idea.
