More Baja Birds

More About Baja Birds

I now have my own pet white-winged dove. Her name is Captain Crunch. That fits because she’s bold enough to walk onto the patio, jump up on the rim of the dogs’ bowls and devour their dry dog food.

No picture. I’ve tried to get one but she is camera shy and moves off when I have it. Probably just doesn’t do endorsements.

She coo’s loudly at times when the bowls are empty, then I put dog pellets in her feeder. The feeder is close to the fountain and near the big mango tree where she nests and raises babies year after year.

I’ve been witness to the whole bird family thing from choosing the nesting place, finding a mate, building the nest, brooding the two tiny eggs, knowing when the chicks have hatched by their little yips and barks as she feeds them, regurgitates tiny bits of the softened brown pellets.
