Anyone know this old Mexican movie?

I'm not sure of the title...

But years ago on the way to Puebla, the bus driver put in an old black and white movie.

Even with my rough Spanish at the time I found it interesting and funny. I asked the person next to me about it and they said it was a satire about the Mexican Government, and a comedy. I think about the corruption of the PRI at the time.

I think it fairly famous (semi -underground) in Mexico; but, forgotten with the younger generation.

I found the movie called "Herod's Law" or "La ley de Herodes" but it was produce in 1999 and not available now. (hhmmm.. jaja) Is it or was it a remake of the older movie or am I completely off here?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Mango Thank you for mentioning this film!!

"I found the movie called "Herod's Law" or "La ley de Herodes" .....

This is one of the best and most insightful movies ever made in Mexico!!

Director Luis Estrada had the cojo..es to stick it to the PRI in 1999 when he wrote and directed "La Ley de Herodes".....

My radical friends in Oaxaca say it helped bring about the fall of the ruling party in the 2000 election.
The film is a must see for any expat who lives in Mexico. IMHO.

I kinda had that impression when I saw it on the bus ride to Peubla, it was almost like the bus driver was telling me... "See, We know we are F-ed up... everyone here knows its.. and.. welcome to the club!

I was told it was a classic. yet also shunned.
