It's the Pacific Rim. And for good measure, check out the "extinct" volcanoes near Santa Rosalita.

Geologists agree that Baja was once part of the mainland. Now, that must have been a real shaker!

whoa yeah.....we are all kind of bracing for more....a couple years ago for those of you who dont remember or are newbies...we had 2 months of constant quakes which made our little village pretty crazy!
There hadnt been any quakes in recent memory but the seismologists said it's good to let the pressure off now and again so another BIG ONE doesnt happen...and because of our house being on this dang rock out here, the noise of the quake can be likened to when thunder happens right over your house...only it's under the house! Pretty unnerving....but no other quake yet...hopefully not in the night...geez, I'll have to get my emergency bag ready again.

The quakes are so localized, they do not show up on any monitoring site----but they are real.

They are VERY LOUD even in the dunes where we live and from the olds we have experienced there, they are sharp ones, not the rolling type. Our big dog always hears them before we do and warns us.

At least they don't evacuate the entire town anymore.

Our new place in San Quintin is built in front of several volcanoes and our footings are actually tied into volcanic rock just a few feet below. I can just imagine what that must have felt like.

Hopefully no injuries or damage...

Opps, thought you knew.

They really are not that bad, but then again, we are native California people---been through several big earthquakes.

They are loud, however---can't miss them.

Shari, Sorry they spooked you. I recall that you said the previous earthquake swarm were shallow (focus) quakes. That's pretty good as quakes go. Deeper ones are typically stronger, longer and have the rolling wave forms that wreck stone structures. As I recall your place is mostly wood frame...that's safest in these conditions...provided you are careful about furniture (book cases or heavy, unsecured furniture near the bed...where things may fall over... Also I an damn sorry I missed it! Tell the goddess to hold off till I can get back, please.

I've been "privileged" to have lived two miles from the epicenter of the Sylmar Quake in '71, and five miles from the epicenter of the Northridge quake. Just lucky, I guess. just make sure your good tequila is stored somewhere that it can't fall and shatter.

You are correct Skip...these are close to the surface and dont roll and only last maybe 3 seconds at the moment....they are just annoying as they are very loud...and it seems a big semi just hit your house or something...BOOM...but no damage...our house is cement so when they increase, we just pitch the tent outside...no problema!

The last episode was in November a couple years ago and we've only had some small tremors since those 3 months of every day occurences...they say its good to let the pressure off though so this is probably a good thing.

Shari

The whales are just returning from the Sea of Cortez through the tunnel and just hitting their heads in the tunnel.
