Barometer is very important but the most important thing for reef fishes in the sea of Cortez is the tidal movement. In the winter this is directly related to the tide change. I can look at good tide tables and pretty accurately predict which days are going to be good for yellowtail and which days you might just as well stay in camp. This is definately related to the baitfish issue. However, just when you think you understand, along comes June and because of the difference between tides and current there is a really hot fishing time for yellowtail that does not coincide with tides, but the current is still there. It would be very interesting to have a current meter set up on the north side of San Marcos Island and you could tell when things were going to get good.
I get a big kick out of a few guys who fish pretty hard for spotted bay bass who think that the bass are all caught up in the seine nets fromt the trawlers working out front, but they have no idea about the tides or currents. I change time according to the currents and go out and catch as many bass as before but adapt to current times.

baitcast. I really doubt that Skeet needs your advive about me or anything else. Everything about Mulege was fantastic. One super great place with some mighty fine residents. If telling the truth about the lack of reef fish in the Mulege area is negative, I'm guilty. What's wrong with fishing for shellcrackers? :?:

There was a time in Mulege when it was known as "The Grouper Capitol of Baja".
One day at Delfonso I caught a 100 lbder and a 180 Lbder on Back to back Cast into about 40 feet of water.

The only good place near Mulege that I know for reef fish is off of the Point on the East side of Conception.
I think that as years went by and Silt builtup in and around the outlet at Mulege that it did affect the close in Fishing.

Do any of you remmember the 1,000 Grouper{Jew Fish} that resided near the Point off of Kino Bay??
I heard a lot of stories but was never quite sure if it was a True Story or Not.
