Perseids tonight!
Hi all,
Since we are blessed here in Baja with greater than average clear skies and dark skies it a good chance to catch this popular meteor shower. You don't
need any special equipment other than your eyes a comfy reclining lawnchair and some patience.
This year the last quarter moon will interfere as the radient (the point in the sky where the meteors seem to originate from) rises high in the sky
after midnight, but its possible that this year will see a spike in the numbers (up to 200 a minute although the faint ones will be washed out by the
glare of the moon). It may be best to view towards the north or west to avoid the moon influence. Good luck!

On the Coast in Rosarito
Basic dumb question, I know, but I am astronomically challenged.
Do I go outside and look to the north-western sky?
Also, midnight means midnight PST?

we're building 2 multi battalion op's centers. i'm glad to have a good job during this de/recession.... i get home mid-day friday and spend the
weekends at the beach, north and south of the border......

Enjoy it Woody, that is a good job. Check out the Salton Sea, it's huge, there are some cool things to see around there. The surf is real small now
anyhow.

yeah, it's so hot i won't go out sightseeing until fall. on the bright side, i graduated from swinging a hammer to the management side of things so it
isn't really as bad as it could be......
now, as soon as the sun goes down.... start the show!

They will occur all over the sky but its best to face away from the glare of the rising moon. The biggest burst is supposed to be an hour or 2 before
sunrise. I just came in and we have seen a few really bright fireballs (like as bright or brighter than Venus!)

cool...while you were seeing fire balls, I was busy with fur balls...our kitty had her kittens during the meteor shower!!!

at 3am i got up to toss some water. then went out and looked up at the high clouds..... 2-3 BRIGHT streaks in 5 minutes and my pillow was calling me
back to bed.

I also went out at 3am and watched the sky for about 20 mins----------I did not see anything but stars---------where was the light show.

I went with my daughter and her boyfriend out to Boulevard, east of San Diego. We watched from about 12:30 to 2:30 and saw quite a few.
Unfortunately the moon and high whispy clouds washed out most of them. But it was still fun, especially when we started telling scarey stories and
freaking each other out!
Forget about the danger and think of the fun.

It seems last night was more active for us here than the supposed peak the night before. Around 10:30 we went out for about an hour (just before the
moon rose) and we saw between 1-3 every minute. They were all fairly bright with long tails. They seemed to follow the "spine" of the milky way.
