Canon de Tigre—formerly listed as A La Mision Tragedy

Jaime, Keri, and I visited the burned out site of Maria Montiel home site (her beauty parlor is in La Mision) and her family which was located at the south end of the de Tigre grade about ten miles or so south of La Mision. I stress was because there is nothing left except the walls.

As we pulled up Maria was feeding the chickens and looking for two of her cats that she fears perished in the blaze. A most sad site but somehow it was brightened by two tender caring people who are determined to rebuild their home—they sure will be in need of many helping hands to do this—that it will be done they are sure—and the three of us had that feeling also as we delivered the first, hopefully of many, carloads of stuff to replace a bit of what they had lost.
Towels, blankets, clothes, household goods, etc, etc…

Smiles abounded and it was a most good feeling which we all shared. Gotta tell you I thought Jaime was nuts when I saw some of the ‘stuff’ she had packed…trash bags, CHAP STICK, shampoo…the pack of chap stick was the first thing seized upon immediately applying some to her smile. Her husband, Polo, put the trash bags to instant use in cleaning up burned articles.

Noproblemo2 hit it on the head when describing Maria—“Maria, the patron saint of kindness, love, support, and generosity, unmatched in this World, is in need of help after this tragedy.”

Hey! We are going to need the help of all you good Baja Folks to help put this wonderful family back into their home. We’ll need cash, donated goods, as well as some helping hands to accomplish this. There is sufficient land around their place to park a few campers for the work parties and laughs that will accompany the helping hands…Let’s think hard on this…

Tragedy could be turned into fun and smiles with just a little effort on the part of more than a few of us Baja Nomads.

Keri has agreed to coordinate donated goods. We need someone local who can work with folks on the work details etc. Any volunteers?

Keri can be reached in the board via U-2-U. Same with Jaime and me.

Hi Guys, Bernie and Jaime ,Just like Maria I don't have the words to tell you how much I appreciate what you have done for them.. The things that you two brought down here were so very thoughtful and immediately useful. Jaime having been through a fire herself knew just what to bring.. I know Bernie won't say anything but beside everything else they brought he and Jaime also gave the Montiels $500.00 to put with Marias son's $13.00 he gave her from his piggybank towards their rebuilding fund. Now that is certainly in holding with Bernies thoughts on "people helping people" and the " Baja Nomad spirit." That sure gives them a real good head start. We also delivered all the back packs and school supplies from Bajanuts and another nice donation from Cabo Magic ,again many thanks . There was lots of tears and many many thank yous for everything.Whats really nice is Bernie has already called and he and Jaime have already filled their car again and they are also talking to all their friends and collecting donations. We even found some one to pick up the things that Vagabundo offered. Wow you guys are just great. Please don't stop the donations now. If you have something I'm sure we can find a way to get it down. Oh one thing ,
I have more information for you . We will be having a Potluck Fund raiser to add to the building fund this next week, I'll open a new thread to give all the details, Also a new thread for the paypal acct. Thanks for caring,k:yes:

This is a tragic event for sure but after reading so much negativity on here lately this is really cheering me up. I know that's not the point but thanks.
I may be coming down soon and I do have a truck so maybe I can bring donated items for people.
A while back I brought some bikes down for some kids and it really helped me connect with the people.
So thanks again Bernie, Jamie and Keri and lets keep this good vibe going!

Keith and I stopped by the house on Friday, but missed Maria because she was actually working somewhere at Punta Piedra doing makeup for a wedding! Polo was there, cleaning up around what was left of the house. We had some stuff in the car, which we left---but most of the donations will have to wait until they have a new place to put them, since they are currently living in the motor home, donated by Bill Welsch. I must say, everyone is rising to the occasion---and nobody has done more than Keri--Kudos to you! Hope to see many of you at her fundraiser next week!
