War Song

Antoninus was a “Singer of Songs” and apologized for his lack of other talents which he might have used with Spartacus and his army of slaves battling for their freedom.

I’m too old and stove up, lack the resources to go north to join the battle. Perhaps I can summon up some “Songs” to help the army. Some words to remind those who are now in need that we love and honor them with our goods and work and wishes. Remind also those ready and able to help, how right and human they display themselves.

It is everlasting proof of the resiliency and courage of a culture that has outlasted the Toltecs, the Europeans, villainous leaders, fevers and droughts and fierce storms. The overwhelming selfless charity of the others stands like a monument to a commonality that was always there, seen never more clearly than now.

They say “What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.” May I offer “What doesn’t kill us, draws us closer.” This is about as close as people get. Right now, we are one.
