coco's corner
Has anyone been to Coco's Corner as of late? Most of what I've read said the road is awful. On one site I saw bolders on the road but the site was
from 2007. Is it any better than back then? My husband and I are driving to the Baja early Dec. It would be a shame to come all that way and not have
the opportunity to meet such a colorful character. Thanks for any input.

What route are you planning on taking? Coming in from Hy1 is probably fine. Be sure to take him a "care package" of goodies and maybe a bottle of
Presidente....dt

I was there yesterday (Friday) Coco is doing fine and the road is in pretty decent shape.

Thanks for the input. We picked up maps yesterday and are in the throws of mapping out our trip. We've never been to Baja. San Javier and Toros Santos
are on our list of places to go, so now were are looking to see how to get there. lol As for Coco I've no idea what Presidente is. Goodies like what?
I'm assuming with both legs gone he is diabetic so sweets would be out of the question, perhaps guy things like shaving stuff, a t- shirt, I don't
know dtbushpilot, give me some ideas. From what I've read we have to puertocitos to get there. Though Lorne [husband] is excited about the trip he
is crapping nickles from all the horror stories friends are telling him about their ventures in Mexico, but they are 10yr out of the loop. We'll be
leaving after the Grey cup Game and will be down there for 4 weeks. We aren't looking for touristy places. Little villages are more to our liking.

It would be best to not bring Coco any alcohol since he is diabetic. He can always use some cat food for his 3 cats. Also something that he can sell
to passers by like some sodas or bottled water.

Coco can always use staple food stuff - we've made it a point in the past to drop off whatever non-perishable goods we have - mostly canned stuff
& water.

On your trip plan make sure you stop in San Ignacio It by far is the best little town in Baja

Was at CoCo's corner in October. CoCo is doing great and really getting around with no legs. As far as the road goes if you are coming from Mex 1 not
to bad slow going as always. Coming from San Felipe lots of road work workers have cut in secondary road away from road construction. Man when it is
done it will be wonderful. But still rough. Use side roads as much as possible. Also if going to see CoCo please bring dry cat food for his Cats. Have
a great trip.

to bad slow going as always. Coming from San Felipe lots of road work workers have cut in secondary road away from road construction. Man when it is
done it will be wonderful. But still rough. Use side roads as much as possible. Also if going to see CoCo please bring dry cat food for his Cats. Have

Going south from Puertecitos/ San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay: 10 miles new paved road, a couple more under construction, then slow rough road for 30 miles
to Gonzaga. Coco's Corner is between Gonzaga and Hwy. 1 (Laguna Chapala) and that 36 mile road is well maintained, good shape.
So, if your goal is Coco and Gonzaga and you want an easier drive, then come up from Hwy. 1.
If you are going through San Felipe and want to see the Enchanted Islands, and don't mind driving slow for 30 miles... Oh, you don't say what you are
driving? An SUV or pickup is best for this route. If you are in a passenger car, camper, small motorhome then do NOT drive south of Puertecitos...
drive north from Chapala.

David I really didn't want to go via San Felipe, but the map shows only one road to get there. then we'ld have to back track. I LIKE easy. I'm suppost
to be his navigator, but think we'll both in trouble cause I'm old, addled and blonde, ooophs bad combination, for sure I'll check out the hwy 1
route. Thanks. Read your report TW. To bad the scum-bums of the world had to rip him off. Sad

I still don't know what you are driving to give sage advice... For paved or well graded roads from San Felipe on south, you will need to go north 31
miles to Hwy. 3, go across to Ensenada and then south on Hwy. 1... If you want more of a short cut, then go from Valle Trinidad to San Vicente... dirt
and steep... it is part of the Baja 1000 course this month... but way better road than to Gonzaga from Puertecitos.
Unless you are in a camper/ moho/ sports car... go to Gonzga south from San Felipe, just go slow over the rough 30 miles... allow 3+ hours.

Coco always appreciates your "basic" medicines (especially antibiotic ointments) and fresh fruit and veggies..... Heard the road is pretty good right
now (just came out thru San Felipe so don't have first hand knowledge here....) Red meat is also a plus too......
