Rock Throwing - Update Baby Dies

One stone kills baby in Tijuana

Last Saturday died the little Karen Ximena Verdugo Barrera two years old, who since last Sunday 8 November was injured by a stone on the head received while in its carrier, in the car of their parents.

Karen was riding in his dad's car, went back to Tijuana after visiting his grandparents, in Ensenada, on the weekend. He was injured in the head by a stone thrown apparently "for fun" by a group of five youths.

The stone came from a place known as Rancho Santini, in km 45 +600 of the road between two cities.

After six days of agony, the baby died at a private hospital in Tijuana, because he could not bear the skull fracture that caused the stone the size of a fist, released by the group in which they found two adults and three teenagers.

The confirmation of Karen's death was conducted by the Zone's assistant attorney in Playas de Rosarito, Rafael Gonzalez Cervantes, who said from this and although it was not his intention, the defendants are liable for their actions.

"They should face a criminal responsibility before a judge on charges of aggravated degree intentional homicide for conspiracy," he said

According to information from the Attorney-General for Justice in Playas de Rosarito, children who caused the accident will be blamed for the crime of homicide and the punishment is aggravated further by gangs.

The two adults involved in the case are Angel Paredes Armando Ortega, Miguel Angel Alejo Torres, both 18 years old, and three teenagers aged 14, 15 and 17 years of age whose names have been reserved.

The students have reported being stopped throwing stones at cars traveling on the scenic road just "for fun".

Mrs. Erika Barrera, mother of the baby died, the authorities demanded greater vigilance on the roads.
