Online in El Pescadero
FYI Trish and I bought a fairly new internet service from Movistar phone co. We had to go to a Cabo Movistar tienda as the Todos Santos store did not
offer the service. We had to buy a usb insert w/a simms chip for 550 pesos, you have to send a text message each day of use declaring whether you want
the slow service option 236 kbps for 12.7 pesos/day or a faster option for 30 something pesos/day. i've been using the slow option which is ok for
e-mail and browsing. If you wanted streaming or alot of photos the faster option would needed. A dollar a day isn't bad. After working out a few kinks
with a neighbor the service has been good.

Getting to Pescadero
Hola! Saw your post with regard to Moviestar but Pescadero caught my eye...getting lots of news about roads and bridges damaged or gone in the
North...we are heading outta here in a few days and plan to cross Tecate in less than two weeks. What's the score on roads? We plan to stay 1st
night in Catavina, 2nd Mulege, and home the next to Pescadero. Anything info you have would be great. Trying to thread it together and not being
super familiar with the road (only traveled it 3x now) I'm not sure what bridges are where...thanks!

Welcome to the BajaNomad!
There are other threads running currently on "Today's Posts" that are giving regular updates on the road conditions. Some miraculous work is being
done around the washed out bridges and traffic is starting to get through. It is slow going, through about 2 feet of water, but the water is receding
fast. As it recedes, trucks, tractors and workers are continuing to fill in and compact. It looks like by this afternoon all traffic will be able to
pass, barring another deluge. Apparently today's rain is much lighter and will probably not cause a lot of problems.
At the top of the Bajanomad Forums page you will see a purple stripe. In the middle of the purple stripe are the words "Today's Posts". Click on that
and you will see all of the current information.
By the time you are in Baja the HWY 1 should be in a lot better shape.Good luck and enjoy your trip.
By the way, you and I have kinda hijacked Dutko1's topic. You should probably post on one of the other threads you find on the road conditions.

What made you decide to go with Movistar's service? Is it 3g?
I had a movistar phone but it didn't work where my pescadero casa is so I bought a telcel phone since i can see the telcel tower from mi casa. Phone
worked great so I went with the telcel 3g usb white mouse looking thing. It works fine except everytime I go into town I have to stop at the Cabo
Telcel place and wait in line for them to 'activate' it and get charged various amounts. I have not figured out how to activate the service from my
phone or online as I have a bancomer account. Been told it works but as of yet no can do.
Just interested why Movistar since you are in pesky too? Wonder if speed is comparable. Telcel is 60/mo or 35/mo usd depending on if on 18 month
contract. we decided not to do contract since we already bought the modem. Also you can do a day, week, 15 days, month etc. I just wish I could figure
out how to do this without having to go to the Cabo Telcel store. The ones in Todos just look at me like they don't know what I'm talking about when I
ask about this. They also say since I started my account in Cabo then that is where it has to be serviced???

You can do a lot of your account service stuff over the phone *264 and you can make payments at any bank or OXXO. Unfortunately we have spent hours
going around and around with Carlos Slim's minions over this Banda Ancha 3G service. What a pain in the keester they are.

I choose movistar because I was told that the telcel option was a contract only service and since we're only here 4 mez/year that the prepay on
movistar made the most sence. Also we have a movistar phone w/good reception.

thank you for much needed info--I am really new to this area-how much spanish do I need to know when I go to the Movistar store in Cabo?? do you need
cash or do they take credit cards what kind of paperwork do I need to have-thank you for your help
