Tecate headed north

I had to go back to work...

Tecate...
I was really surprised at the boarder headed back to the "other" side.
Last trip thru, 4 cars in front of us. Today, 7:30 am 30-ish. 45 min. wait time. Heard on the AM radio news stations Otay Mesa 30 min. wait.
Last time north thru Otay.... 3 hours 7:30 am'ish..On a Saturday, in December.

Don't tell folks about Tecate.. sish.

great trip / Baja Time....

1 hour 10 minutes

A friend went up last Thursday, got there around 9am and it was a one hour, 10 mimute wait. Usually not the case. Less tourism. more wait time?
Otay is better, but I hate it.

Tecate is getting on to what's happening, a lot more people going thru Tecate, I have noticed the wait times have gone from 10 and 15 mins to 45-1+ hours and a lot of people going into secondary inspection.

Logic lost

Yesterday, crossed at Tecate, 5pm, took 15 minutes.

I was carrying 12 bottles of unopened wine. Inspector said I could only bring two.

"But this wine was purchased in the U.S."

"Do you have a receipt?"

"No, but the wine is sealed and from a U.S. winery. If I had purchased it in Mexico it would logically be Mexican wine and have a stamp, no?"

"Not good enough. I'm sending you to secondary"

Had to wait 30 minutes for an inspection but 5 minutes later left with the wine.

Still, less time than I would have spent at San Ysidro.

POSSIBLY LESS TIME.

SECONDARY IS THE GAME NOW AT TECATE, SO PLAN ON IT...IN MOST CASES, DEPENDS, YOU KNOW THE DRILL, EVERYTHING IN LIFE DEPENDS.

Lots of secondary going on. I have been going everyday and half of the time they send everyone to a second stop so the dogs can sniff, have you open the hood and trunck etc. Still a good deal and if they keep it up for a while the smugglers might (just might) go else where and the wait will be even better.

Tecate today at 12:30 about a 30 minute wait. It seems a reasonable time to wait at a border.

Crossed at Otay on Sunday at about 2:30pm. Only 15 - 20 wait. Like the Blvd 2000 run straight to the border.

On another note, we waited over one hour for the military check just North of the first Toll booth outside Ensenada. Those checks are getting worse with just about no actual results.
