Sights Up North

While visiting some Baja amigos in Manitoba, I chanced upon this...The GAOL....brrrr

No, not a hockey player's training center. THE GAOL is different and somewhat foreboding.

A provincial jail ....... usually housing minor offenders.

shari...how right you are. My old high school looked very similar, too.

...As for visiting The Gaol...good thing these nice Waldos I had mounted were my legal limit at the time I caught them. All nice walleyes, don't you think?

Not too many fish in the world compare to WALLEYES for the dinner table....mmmmm.

¡Gracias, Josie. El placer es mío. I enjoy trying out a new camera and posting the results here. They are not certainly not professional, but I can qualify as a highly interested novice.

Just for you (and a few others..), here is a herd of wild horse near my birthplace in ND. It has not changed too much over the years..thank God.

Your mother has my congratulations, Kurt..a shrewd woman, no doubt. I can only agree that northern Minnnesota has some beautiful lakes and scenery. Lake of the Woods in particular...and the Rainy River watersheds. I have spent many a year there...fishing and contemplating Nature at it's best.

Where the goshdurn mosquitos are art subjects!

These days, most Up North villages and cities have a resident population of wild Canadian geese in thier city parks & ponds.

The larger geese of this species are commonly known as Honkers. For good reason. They HONK..loudly.

A few hundred of these outside your bedroom window will get your attention!

Thankfully..there is a solution.

Love the mosquito sculpture! Certainly based on reality. After growing up in Minnesota I have never been able to seriously complain about bugs in Mulege or anywhere else except maybe Alaska where there are giant mutant relatives of Minnesota mosquitos.

Heading for Mulege two weeks from today.

Ah Pompano - Those images of the long straight highway, the grasslands, the beautiful old grain elevator by the tracks.... you've tossed me back to the visions of my youth, created a big smile for me today.

Those long unbroken expanses.... said to be unbeatable for encouraging the imagination. There's nothing to get in the way of it running wild.;D:yes:

Nena....It 's 'plain' to me that ....You are suffering from Prairie Rapture...an affliction of the soul when too long away from the Motherland of The Great Plains. And I can wholeheartedly concur with letting one's imagination run wild. I am sure my folks are smiling right now at that...."Oh yeah, that's our wild oats boy."
