Los Tigres del Norte
Just performed a song that came from the Mixtec culture that may be more than a thousand years old, the subject of which is about an immigrant's
feelings of loss and longing for home.
Also, Los Cenzotles and Linda Ronstadt ontributed performances to this documentary.

John Riley, the Leader of the Irish Contingent of the Mexican Army
Was captured alive, despite the fact that he and his men were determined to fight to the death against the American forces because they knew that they
would be hanged, a punishment for criminals that the British government instituted.
He was detained and then branded on both cheeks with a "D" for deserter and released to the Mexican government.
He died a few years later, of yellow fever, in Veracruz.

Yeah Dave, I Was Not Using the "D" Word
The Americans at that time hated the Irish immigrant Army volunteers as much if not more than they hated and feared the other immigrants of different
origin - the Irish army soldiers were treated like...well, listen to the documentary and form your own opinions.
The records of their service and the trials and executions were buried in the U.S. archives for over two hundred years.
Regardless of all of that - THE MUSIC IS FANTASTIC!

Mexico calls it "The War of Intervention." We call it "The Mexican - American War."
1846 - 47
Here's a good read about it:

I was live blogging.
Any mistakes regarding historical accuracy or intent are mine.
You can pile on me. I can take it.
But' please, if you want a treat, check out the documentary. Good people doing good stuff.
