To complement the recent informative post by Agavedaze on the Guaymas - Santa Rosalia ferry, here is is a link to an equally informative blog post by Barbara Weibel on the Mazatlan - La
Paz ferry complete with extensive photos.

Sure wished her fee quote for a vehicle was correct.
Would be nice to be able to take your vehicle for $ 1000 pesos. But I believe the correct amount is closer to $ 2500 pesos. For a service that should
be provided by the government, like everywhere else in the world, the fees are ourageous.

Regardless, some fun reading on her blog.

Soulpatch,
This was an answer to one of the questions in her blog.
I scanned Bajaferries and their fee quote was $ 2450, if I remember right.

Note how elegant much of the public spaces are. The ferry that the blogger took was, indeed built in Italy in 2001. Ferries are a way of life in many
regions of the world. And there have been instances where ferries have been converted into cruise ships. I specifically recall a Princess cruise we
took years ago on a ship then called Sun Princess, which was a converted ferry. I note that Baja Ferries did not commission this ship, but rather
bought it when it was a couple of years old. I guess they didn't feel the need to retrofit the electrical system form 220 to 110.
I was curious as to why the author seemingly was required to present a passport when traveling within the confines of Mexico.

Anyone traveling down mainland from Mexicali or Nogales to Maztalan get the map on line from ontheroadin.com and you pay about $12 dollars to download
it off the website but it will never get you lost. You will gets heads up on where Premex stations that carry diesel are, places of interest, topes,
military stops, agricultural stops checking for fruit, Federal car inspection stops, and places to stay or eat along the way. Well worth the price of
it the toll road goes through some towns so you need to know where to turn to get back on the toll road and this map does just that. The ferry docking
terminal in Maztalan is very clean and helpful. The ferry is pretty big and they told us about 8 to 10 hours to cross so like others have said the
rough waters slow you down. Maztalan is always an experience and I will post some pictures of my trip down this year and I will use the ferry to cross
my vehicle next time to then stay in La Paz and on down to Cabo then back to San Diego area. You can ride their nice buses all over the town for 8
pesos or take the older bus for 6 pesos but best way to get downtown and returned right back to your hotel. When retired I have found schedules are
best for placing your coffee cup or cold beer on, LOL. The toll road from Nogales to Maztalan ran about $62 dollars one way but well worth it instead
of free road. Love the last leg from Culiacan to Maztalan easy safe drive at speeds of 70 on toll road and people will still pass you in Tourist Buses
and other trucks, LOL. While on the topic of where to stay, Hermosillo has a Fiesta Americano that is just great ask for 8th or 7th floors as they are
recently remodeled and have beds like Westin cost $130 dollars but for a place to let loose with a few more dollars this is it. Secure parking and
they will wash your truck or car for $4 dollars and they do a great job besides I left things in the back of truck that nobody messed with as security
really watchful. I know there are lesser hotels for $60 but the dang beds just kill my back anymore so until I get to Los Mochis where we have a
relative I like to break the trip up to avoid driving at night. In Los Mochis we stay at the Best Western right in the towns center by the church just
great location to listen to bands, guitar plays and folk dancing on Friday,Saturday and sometimes Sunday. All kinds of food carts and the hotel has
great food and bar also. Large inside parking so nothing, repeat nothing gets taken from your vehicle or truck. Hermosillo also has a person that can
work on your diesel vehicle that Chevolet or Ford could not. His name is Fernando Villaescusa Valenzuela he is located at Guillermo Arreola No. 243 in
Hermosillo, Sonora with telephone number of 262-0842 and cell phone of 6621-80-05-32. Without this man's help we would have been stranded with
injector problems and no mexican diesel problem as with over 65 gallons can go the distance without needing to get fuel there, the dang injectors have
been a nightmare for people with Duramax diesel engines after 80,000 miles, have put in three sets already. If I did not own it I would get rid of it.
The man does the Baja 500 and really likes Baja so he races and has trophes to show his wins. He has a nice sand buggy he races with and he stayed
overtime to get me on my way. The cost was $80 dollars for cleaning my fuel filter out as I did not take a spare but will in the future and putting on
a new EGR sensor that I did take with me. Got my power back for engine and away I went to Los Mochis and then Maztalan. No problems anywhere other
than the first leg when truck acted up before getting into Hermosillo. I know that a number of people have trailers also and this map I talk about
shows every RV Park on the way down too. I will come back and post pictures soon. bajafun777

Yep. I took that ferry in 1982. Cabo sure was different then. We surfed our brains out in Cabo then went over to PV and did the same thing and drove
the mainland home to so. cal. Great trip.

I think it was '85 when we did just about the same thing. Just seems to me that given that both Cabo and PV have lots more folks today than back them,
it would make sense to have a ferry on that route.
