Report - Immigration at San Ysidro & Costco Exchange rate

Walked over the border today to get my 180 day tourist visa. They now have new forms, one for immigration and one for the bank. Payment is $22 U.S. No line as usual and easy as pie. The normal immigration office closes now in the evening but you can still get a visa after hours in the auto lane and the bank is open 24 hours.

My friend had got his visa paperwork at Discover Baja and he went with me to get his visa validated. They did not accept the old form and he had to fill out the new form. He had a print out of the receipt and had paid $26 for his visa. They accepted that OK.

The walk back across to the U.S. was a breeze - no line at all. Thanks Arizona!

The exchange rate at Costco in Chula Vista today was Pesos 11.901 = $1 U.S. and of course, no commission.

Headed to G.N. Thursday, then on to Santa Rosalia Saturday.

A question? Since many of you stop for your tourist visas and have to go to the bank anyway can't you get your pesos there?

If I go into Costco, US, for no other reason than to just use the bathroom, It will cost me 100 bucks.

So, Bajajurel, do the FMTs LOOK any different? Have they gone to the magnetic striped cards yet? There was talk of the new system being in place on May 1..........oh yeah, of this year.

The tourist visa is now called the FMM (which does include a few other visa categories such as business).

It's supposed to be a horizontal form - larger blue section on the left that is the entry record, and a smaller green section on the right that is for the exit record. (I have a picture of it on my site).

Was that the form you (bajajurel) got? Did they explain anything about handing it in on exit, if indeed that even applies on the Baja border? Do you know the actual price in pesos? (the exchange rates are fairly random so it's usually cheaper to pay in pesos if you have them).

Rob
