Dia de las Madres Fiesta in Asuncion
Yesterday was the village's traditional Mother's Day Fiesta.
My dear nomad amiga Zoe accompanied Sirenita and I to a nice lunch at the new restaurant Loncheria Mari that had a chinese food special. We then
bought ourselves a couple of nice plants and went visiting friends and family.

It is the custom to get all gussied up and make the rounds with a hug and handshake for all the women you meet wishing them a Feliz Dia...and you
receive these greetings for most men you come across as well...it's very sweet.
The town puts on a huge party held in the small disco where the Moms get fed, entertained and plied with free beer and a mystery liquid that Zoe was
brave enough to drink. It is wonderful to see hundreds of women together and interesting to see all the generations together at one table
It is one of the few mexican events that you have to actually get there early. The place was packed and even had to set up tables outside for
overflow. The disco music was deafening and smoke filled the room...it was a day for the moms to get drunk, smoke, dance and generally be
crazy...something the dont get to do very often. Amazing to see all the great grannies up there dancing!!
There was fokloric dancing and a raffle too

there were prizes for some silly contests like musical chairs, the woman who could get their bra off fastest and a beer guzzling contest...guess which
lady won??

We left after 7 hours of craziness and the party was still going strong. there will be alot of hungover moms today for sure!

I was so busy reading up on Copper Canyon that I didnt go to our party ... but I hear it was good too !! My neighbor stopped by at the end of the
evening to give me the details .... she was quite sauced up so that tells you how good it was !! The men here limit the amount of beer - apparently a
couple years ago the women got REALLY crazy and the men got worried hahahaha
