Rabies shots & Los Cabos
Apparently the Feds have changed the rules re: bringing your pet through immigration & customs. What was a 3 year rabies shot, and still is in the
US, is now an annual thing in Baja....and to add complexity..no longer is a copy of Vet Check going to work now has to be the original. So if you
arrive without the above, a vet is summoned to the airport and you watch your critter get a shot and then hand over $60 usd...oh and it takes about an
hour and a half. I was not prepared for this (I do not study animal immigration issues). If it was a shakedown, it was creative.

Geez. Seeing the title of the thread, I was worried that I was going have to get a rabies shot.
That said, I know a huge number of folks travel with their pets. I'll probably take some flak for this, but in my opinion, if you must take your pet
with you on vacation, especially if you are flying, you ought to expect to have to pay a premium for that. My daughter, while also attending college,
has a pet sitting business. Many of her clients are people who vacation, and leave Fido or Garfield at home.

Fecal exams!
We flew into Loreto on Sunday with our two dogs, Certificates for International Movement of Small Animals in hand, as always. For the first time ever,
we were asked for proof of fecal exams for each dog! That and the heartworm test boxes were inadvertently not checked off on the form. We got through
without too much flack this time (but perhaps only because we recently supplied the agriculture examiner heartworm tablets for his Rottweiler!) Their
rabies shots are from 2008 and good for 3 years. No mention of annual rabies shot needed.

And just maybe, if one were to drive across the border, there would be even less attention to compliance. Seems to me that there is a double standard-
land travel v air travel.

Well bajahowood...I am not on vacation. I live here most of the time. I am a dual citizen, and the dog is a service dog who alerts to stroke. That
being said, I hate to fly, but circumstances dictated and I flew for the first time in years. Have never had this problem driving down here and I am
simply describing what happened and notifying readers that several of us pet owners who were stopped were all told that the law had changed from 3
years to one, and that an exam and shot were required, and that the paqperwork all had to be original. Look...I am not new to this. I flew planes down
here from the early 60's and there were very few times when I was not threatened with confiscation becauswe the paperwork was not in order...and order
by the way that seemed to change from trip to trip.
