All that said, as someone posted above, given that federal jurisdiction of Mex 1 stops at the city border, I recommend that the city erect a toll both just inside the city. Charge a toll for those who are clearly not local, and do away with the annoying shakedown situation that exists today.

Can't have a toll road without an adjacent free road. Other than that, be careful of what you wish for. They may implement your idea at the border....both ways.

You may be absolutely correct, my friend. But I'm not so sure that the free road option would matter if the toll booth was actually within a municipality. Not totally conversant with the law, but that might make a diff.

Seems like a pretty easy way to collect taxes and/or money from a revenue stream which has become necessary .... think it will get worse before it gets better... as long as they don't shoot me and take my car and leave with a few bucks... I feel lucky ... every time I get to drive away from a check point... and nothing has gone wrong.. or at least gone really south... so far so good, know it can happen.. been so since I first started coming down it my Dad when around 10... his is advice, don't talk to anyone, don't look at anyone, don't bother anyone, and do what they tell you to do... its their County

My brother and I didn't listen to him at all... ran around Ensenada loose.. doing what ever we wanted and talking to anyone and everyone .. have been just real lucky .... or they all just thing I'm crazy ... which I am...

And ..... I don't get out much........
