From worldwidewords.org

"It’s easy to mock, but there’s a real problem here. Bated and baited sound the same and we no longer use bated (let alone the verb to bate), outside this one set phrase, which has become an idiom. Confusion is almost inevitable. Bated here is a contraction of abated through loss of the unstressed first vowel (a process called aphesis); it means “reduced, lessened, lowered in force”. So bated breath refers to a state in which you almost stop breathing as a result of some strong emotion, such as terror or awe."

Don't hold your breath...

Good Morning, Shari...

On the other hand, I think baited breath is something you wake up with after eating onions and garlic the night before.

Good one Jan, never can tell what you will learn by reading Nomads.

I though baited breath was what you get by sitting by Shari after she consumes a fish eye ball!!

Hi Marc, Just Answering Shari's Question

About the meaning of the phrase, "to wait with bated breath", which means that if you wait for something with bated breath, you feel very excited or anxious while you are waiting.

This is different from "to wait with baited breath", meaning you have just eaten sushi.

Welcome aboard. Can you give us an update on the progress of Cabo Riviera marina?

Can you tell us where the picnic will be for the Bisbee Black and Blue at the end of the month. The invitations don't show exactly where to go. Will the picnic be on the beach about where the big party was with CCR?

Good morning all...A little more info. on me, I am Robert Garcia, now living with my daughter and son in law in Rosarito after prostrate treatments.
I used to spend winters at El Burro beach S. of Mulege. Don't know anything about the Cabo resorts ( except I don't want to go there), Retired former logistics mgr. for large trucking firm. As for the turtle thread, I am still reading all the postings...boy, lot's of stuff there.....I will talk more about all that after more reading.....But, for those of you on the Munoz bandwagon...ya got a lot to learn about truth.....

Sorry, Sr. Garcia, we have a few Baja Bobs down south here and I thought you might be the one who is a salesman for the marina project they are building down here at East Cape. Perdon.

Let me be among the many to welcome you, Bob. As you no doubt know, this is a very friendly board. One of the first things you will likely ask yourself; why didn't I join sooner? I know I did.

Again, great to have you onboard. Now, about that idea of joining the turtle thread...

So, were those "baited questions," or "bated questions"?
