Re: an apology to JRBaja

With due respect and appreciation for this forum, I would like to call attention to the post titled apology to JR. For any of you who have had some time here and recall the circumstances with Doug and Jr, the post by Doug which he bumped reveals a great deal about Doug, the community, the cooperative use of technology by a few to hurt the group apparently with Doug's involvement and exemplifies that innocent people are targeted and suffer social abuse for little purpose other than to hurt individuals.

Well you might say, so what! Who cares! As some say, it's Doug's choice! he can do whatever he wants, and apparently he can and does. That isn't the point.

The point is clear, the thread clearly reveals there is cooperative participation by people who post under multiple pseudonyms, some share IP addresses, some share computers, and there are those who support this in order to abuse others who are otherwise excellent members of the community.

So, we might ask, why? Why would a few people collude to harass nice people here. Maybe the answer to that is who cares, or should we care? Or more importantly why would Doug participate in any way in any of this or if he does feel the need to participate, why not do so in a manner which discourages it instead?

Forum technology is not new, we have been working with online forums with a great deal of experience since the arpanet took off and now we have many tools and processes which could discourage this, easily in fact. Every day, all night long, programmers and developers make contributions to the forum community to create tools and code to discourage these abuses.

I applaud Doug coming forward today. His post is also very revealing about Doug, much more so than about JR except that Jr is not at all the person he was maligned to be by Doug. It would be awesome if we could take a step away from those who do collude to hurt individuals and the group, moving beyond the apology, action is appropriate and put into place tools and actions to discourage these people. The abuse has been fairly detrimental to this site, in fact it is nearly the most obvious trait of the site, there are many many methods to discourage it if the admin would do so.

Perhaps he did. You'll notice JR didn't participate in that thread.

Isn't JR dead?

To be effective, an apology needs to be acknowledged then accepted. Unless one is clairvoyant or JR has risen I don't see how this would work.

This post came up this morning as a "bump" from BajaNomad himself.
When I tried to post this morning, the thread would not allow posting.
Now the original thread is gone and just a few new posts are showing.

Perhaps Doug wishes to explain why he would "bump" this old thread at this time.
Seems likea pretty stupid move to me.

Thanks Dennis.

I guess I would have posted this question there; if it would let me.

If nothing else, I guess it was reason enough for Gnu to start a new thread !?
Another happy day on Nomads ....

I think a good number of nomads have met Doug, his wife and kids at functions down here in Baja and State side, so I really do not believe he would target someone out of wrongfulness. Having said that, I know sometimes people on this site and in forums really tend to foster anger and most people would not think of attacking back badly towards others normally but get pulled in. So, let these old things go keep the spirit of helping each other going which is what this site is really about. Rereading the thread brings back fond memories of the fights we used to have. Good times.

Can't figure out why Doug would want to bump it, though.

If this is the same Jr . back a few years ago...he just sounded off his opinions........perhaps with a little thunder at times. I thought he was the best of all Nomads besides DK. here at this board. This BajaNomadb site used to be a lot more lively...and spicy at times with folks just as Jr. Lets keep his name in respect.

JRBaja is Laughing Right Now

What is it, 4-5 years since he died and he is still stirring up the s*** (excuse me, soup) on Baja Nomad?

How he would be proud.

RIP, JRBaja, you may be gone, but you are not forgotten.

Not sure either why Doug bumped it but there you go - that is one of the perks that come with the position. If you haven't had the pleasure to have met Doug, I can assure you that he is a class act and I doubt it was solely motivated by wanting to stir s**t up....
