First: "In unverified reports, it was stated the girl was bailed out by Toyota . . . ."
IMO this would have been a civil matter, traffic matter, hence my "bail" inquiry. Personally, I don't presume to know what Mexican legal procedure is - I was merely contributing to a misguided thread. I have read accounts of traffic accidents in Baja CA. that one is taken to jail - for lack of another type of facility in small towns in Baja - essentially arrested, until the matter is cleared up, either by payment of damages or charges. Now that is what we're talking about - not drug cartel members who sell drugs or rob people.

Assuming any truth to the report, she may have been arrested for drunk driving, which I imagine is a crime in Mexico, just as it is in the U.S. In any case, "bail" is what a JUDGE orders an incarcerated person to post, as security, before he/she is released from jail pending trial. Whatever payment Mexican authorities might request or demand from a person in custody who is only civilly liable (and I question whether there is any legal authority for holding such a person in custody, for long, much less, for extracting payment from him/her), is something other than "bail."

Case closed? ;D
