I have a Gregor 12' for putting around at camp. I use either a Nissan 9.8 4-stroke or an Evinrude 9.9 2-stroke, depending on how I feel at the moment
and which tank has fuel. The Nissan runs much smoother, cleaner, and is a pleasure to let it idle while I fish. The Evinrude has more torque and jumps
up on plane, but it smokes and idles rough. I turn it off when I stop, then restart when I want to move on. The Nissan runs all day on a gallon or
two. Both weigh about the same. I think the Evinrude is 75lbs and the Nissan is 84lbs. I'm a big guy and I don't like carrying either of them very
far. No way would I want a 125lb outboard to lift out of my truck, carry back and forth, and mount on the boat. Way too much weight. Now add in some
very hot sand, some rocks, and you'll be dropping that 125lb hunk of steel. I'd get the lightest 4-stroke I could get with the power you need.

Jeez! Most any outboard will do the job. There's probably not much
difference between all the various brands on a performance level. Price? Glad I'm not in the market, but Evenrude has always been my favorite.

Yamaha=good
.........."no Mercury"
is my suggestion to NoT buy Mercury outboards for Baja.
Since small outboards generally get abused in Baja, and Mercury, historically, played poor in salt.
-RUST- non-stainless parts
sorry for the confusion

yep,
...and It only took one 2 miLe paddle, 1 complete loss from a frozen Drive shaft, 1 week boat fishing Baja lost, and 2 qualified mechanics (not
dealers) experienced words, to keep me off 'the Mercury' for good.

No Need to apologize Comitan, its a WIN WiN.... i inevitably find myself out WAY toO far for a solo 12' aluminum,
hence, my giRL pats down the Yohnson every time we make it back!
