Pemex gas pumps

Let's re-hash an old subject in a new way, as in, Mexican gas pumps putting more liters into a gas jug than the jug is stated to hold. (Especially at the big Mulege station).

I tried it a new way by accident last weekend. I have two US purchased gas jugs that I've used in Mexico for years. The jugs are stamped 5 US gallons/18.93 liters. Without fail, the Mulege station has managed to put 22 liters (+/-) into those jugs. Point it out to the attendant and you'll just get a blank stare and a shoulder shrug.

Well, I brought those same two jugs back to the States with me last season because of the potential gas issues in northern Baja during last February's storms and road washouts. I just filled them at a northern NV station last weekend. Each jug took 5.8 US gallons. Or, 5.8 x 3.785 lit/gal = 21.95 liters. Hmm, exactly what the Mulege station can get into them!!

I would have pointed it out to the attendant but it was a self serve ARCO station. So, I just stared blankly off into the distance and shrugged my own shoulders......:?:

There is usually a line on the side way below the cap which signifies the level for 5 gallons, you can put more in the plastic container. Normally one wouldn't fill it to the top as it would certainly be more likely to leak. A one gallon tank, can usually hold far more than a gallon but there is a line to mark a gallon.

Or you have an Imperial 5 gallon jug = 22.7 liters.

Sounds like the MX stations are accurate. Who would have thunk.
