Memorial gift for slain officer shows imprint he left on beat

By Diane Bell

Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 8:40 p.m.

Two men in a rundown ’80s-era Nissan in Rolando Park flagged down San Diego patrol Officers James Suibielski and Andrew Tafoya last Saturday.

“We’ve been canning all day,” said one of the men, his lingo for collecting cans and bottles to recycle. He then gave the officers a piece of paper. “This isn’t much, but it’s all we have. We want you to give it to Chris Wilson’s family. He was a good man.”

The men, who appeared to Suibielski to be homeless, had given them a money order for $20 made out in the name of policeman Chris Wilson, 50, who was slain in Skyline in the line of duty last week.

“I got goose bumps,” said Suibielski. “It showed me how many lives Chris has touched.”

The NBC affiliate in San Diego preempted regular programming and carried the entire ceremony live today.

It is always so sad when this happens. We've had a lot of police officers shot and killed her in WA over the last year. Last Nov. there were 4 officers ambushed and killed in a Forza coffee shop as they sat and worked on their laptops before going on duty that morning....someone walk in and just gunned them all down. It is heartbreaking to think of the famiies, children, all the people that their deaths affected. RIP Officer Wilson. Prayers to the family.

Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

RIP Officer Wilson:saint:
