San Felipe Accident

Just recieved word of a bad accident in San Felipe at Hwy5 & Salttito Rd. yesterday.
Water Delivery truck coming from east side of Hwy 5 hit a sandrail. Driver of sandrail dead and passenger possible broken leg? No word on truck driver yet? So far this is all I have heard? Will post more when I hear more. Hope anyone else with info will also?

Its all over the news here, the water truck driver is fine, and based on the photos it seems the driver of the sandrail smashed into the side of the truck, those trucks drive very very slowly, so i am guessing speed had something to do with this.

Are those things legal to drive on highways anyways?

Accident

Some of those ought not to be legal to drive! Most of them are well designed and as safe as something that size and weight can be. But you see others, and it seems like they are the higher speed ones that are nothing but light guage pipe and an engine, some with sharp sheet metal exposed and no protection at all for drivers or passengers, they are merely a poor copy of a true Baja Buggy or race machine. The difference is several thousand dollars, thats what it always comes down to is money. Jessie is the fatality Mexican or American?

Accident San Felipe

Yes, Max. The accident was at the intersection to Eldorado Ranch Residential area. Salltito road is the Road running east/west from Hwy5 near the Crockodile.
We are`awaiting info to see if it is any of our friends or neighbors?
The flags on the rails May help but many never have them as they become a nusance sometimes in the desert. The ocotilla rip them off faster than you can put them on! Am not sure if this would be a speed related thing or not Jesse unless the rail was trying to beat the water truck? You are right, usually the water trucks are not moving very fast either full or empty! Most of those old trucks don't have enough power to move very fast! There are blue water trucks that belong to two guys who are twins.Might be one of them? we have heard so far which ones that are not the ones we are familiar with? Only 3 they say they know it was not? Tony, Carla. or Rafael. Some we know personally. Was glad to hear it was not one of them.

About these vehicles

Most of them have ice chest holders built right into them. I don't think they are for holding lunch meat either!

I think those vehicles are made to deal with rollovers and dirt mounts, not direct impacts against other vehicles like cars do, i would assume that those frames would crack open very easily instead of bending and adsorbing the impact.
