To All our Baja Friends

Thought you might get a kick out of this one!

La Víspera de Navidad

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the casa,
Not a creature was stirring -- Caramba! Que pasa?
Los niños were tucked away in their camas,
Some in long underwear, some in pajamas,

After hanging the stockings with mucho cuidado
In hopes that old Santa would feel obligado
To bring all children, both buenos and malos,
A nice batch of dulces and other regalos.

Outside in the yard there arose such a grito
that I jumped to my feet like a fightened cabrito.
I ran to the window and looked out afuera,
And who in the world do you think that it era?

Saint Nick in a sleigh and a big red sombrero
came dashing along like a crazy bombero.
And pulling his sleigh instead of venados
were eight little burros approaching volados.

I watched as they came, and this quaint little hombre
was shouting and whistling and calling by nombre:
"Ay Pancho, ay Pepe, ay Chucho, ay Checo,
Ay Chato, ay Chico, Pedrito, y Beto!"

Then standing erect with his hands on his pecho
He flew to the top of our very own techo.
With his round little belly like a bowl of jalea,
He struggled to squeeze down our old chiminea,

Then huffing and puffing at last in our sala,
With soot smeared all over his red suit de gala,
He filled all the stockings with lovely regalos --
For none of the niños had been very malos.

Then chuckling aloud, seeming very contento,
He turned like a flash and was gone like the viento.
And I heard him exclaim, and this is verdad,
Merry Christmas to all and Feliz Navidad!

¡We hope your Navidad is maravilloso!

Bernie & Jaime

Twenty years from now you\'ll be more disappointed by the things you didn\'t do then the things you did.

Are these adaptations yours, Bernie? I'm familiar with Moore's classic, but the sophisticated use here of substitute words fits the profile of the poem more than your freestyle application of symbols would normally do.

In other words.........is this your adaptation of the classic?

No! I always take credit for my own work...I just enjoyed this so much that I needed to share it with my Baja Friends.

And. besides, just what do you mean it's not in my lowly style.

I just don't do Christmas stuff because it has always been a hurtful season for me...Dirt poor is just that and needs not to be echoed.

So please take it for what it was intended...a salute to my friends...Here is a sample of my junk:

Three Seasons

A young girl who laughs with tears in her eyes
How can one so young be so strong
Enduring more than should be endurable

A lady who smiles pain residing in her soul
Calmly accepting that which is not to be endured
The world spinning beyond her control

A woman who knows and understands love and life
Who has given so much and will be called again
To give much more than she should

A full bodied laugh wells up from deep within
Beauty smolders deeply
Mixed with sensuous delight

A smile lights her eyes as she wipes away her tears
Strong, calm, and enduring
Celebrate a woman born yet again

Needles to say this one is dedicated to all the women of this world.
