A day on the water out of Loreto

For the past couple of weeks bait has been harder to find out of Loreto than yellowtail. Yesterday I managed only four mackerela, but made the best of it keeping company with dozens of finback whales in the channel north of Danzante.
Here's a pic of Francisco Davis on El Pajaro making bait near the lighthouse at Coronado at first light. Francisco has kept a steady stream of clients in what has been a tough winter in Loreto for pangueros.

Dozens of finback whales were lolling in the calm water in the channel offshore from Loreto Bay.

Thanks for making me depressed Bill.
I'am sitting in my office in Burnaby, BC right now and it started to hail , oh wait it's now snowing.
Save me some yellowtail, I'm on my way early March.
Looks like a typical day in Loreto. Photo's are great.

Bob......Late March should be prime time with the wind down a bit and more fishable days. Yellowtail action has been pretty good for the last couple of months, but there has a lot of wind. I've been averaging well over my limit when I can get out, fishing north and south of town away from the fleet, keeping friends in fish, and releasing many. If you will be fishing on El Pajaro, I'm sure that Francisco will put you on fish......

Cold, and rain, over here in the San Francisco bay area. Thanks for the pics Bill....very cool.

Bill what do the local pangueros charge down there? I've about had it here, I'm ready for a road trip.

TonyC......I'm not sure exactly what is the going rate. I would guess it's around $150 - 200 US if you contract directly with a panguero. And there is no reason not to do that since it is a buyers market. If you go through an outfitter it will, of course, be more.
It is sunny and around 80 in Loreto today......
