Baja Incident shown on "I Survived"
The Biography channel did a segment last night on the incident that occurred a while back involving the couple who were robbed and assaulted in their
RV on a Baja beach. Maybe this has been shown before but I never saw it. The couple described the ordeal in their own words and it was quite a
disturbing event, which they agree they were lucky to survive.
Watching this can't help but discourage travel and will undoubtedly have some impact, particularly with person's considering a trip for the first
time.
In all fairness, they said circumstances put them in a situation they normally would have avoided. (traveling after dark, following some bogus
directions and getting lost, etc.)
They previously had a lot of Baja travel experience.
I'm sure a lot of Nomads know these people and are familiar with the incident.
Of course the perpetrators have never been identified or caught.
The segment will be repeating again on the Biography Channel if anyone wants to see it.
(Don't let the wife or girlfriend see it if you ever want to travel to Baja.)

This incident happened almost two years ago and has been shown on TV before.
Still, I would highly discourage remote beach camping either North or South of San Quintin... Especially South. People have been killed on that
stretch of beach.

The caveat about remote beach camping is golden. Fact is that such incidents have occurred for many years. It's all about folks failing to secure
themselves. And that means, do not go it alone.
The advice about not camping alone is something that has merit and has had merit almost forever.

i think it was north of cuatro casas before the point at colonet. the people were told to pay the $5 and camp in the hostel camping zone and refused.
guess who they went to for help afterward? the hostel....
coulda happened anywhere in the world but keep the alarm bells ringing....

How about with a donkey, or with a donkey and a dog.
I'm guessing that everyone would leave them alone as both those guys are hardcore.

How many robberies and rapes occur in the states? At campgrounds? Why don't we rehash the Green River murders over and over?
While I feel for these folks and the horrible ordeal they went through, I disagree with their stated goal of making sure no one travels in Baja ever
again. Mostly, the surfing community. I hope that they can find some peace in their lives and move on to a better frame of mind where they realize
that only a few people did this to them, not everyone in Baja.

the cops were called and missed the vehicle when they came in from the highway!!! 2 friends met the cops bumper to bumper while chasing the car.

Probably because the people killed on the beach were probably not prostitutes, which every single one of the green river killers victims were. I grew
up in WA when the murders were going on, I used to run and jump into my bed, because I feared that the Green River killer was under my bed.
The GRK was my boogey man. I even read the book about the GRK, before we ever knew who Gary Rhidgeway was.

An elderly couple in a Class A went missing last summer in Alberta Canada, they found their motorhome burnt out and their tow vehicle abandoned in the
woods a few miles away. Their bodies have not been found.
Camping in Canada is dangerous.

Amigos, I'm not sure but two fishermen were found dead in El Socorro 6-8yrs ago. Their truck was found being used by relatives/kids of the
cops/Comandante! I remember they were from Gardnerville Nevada and posters were placed looking for them before their discovery. Also, In the same
area, an incident involving a family camping in the same region , the vados in s El Soccoro, was well publicized in the news and on TV. They barely
escaped after Mama escaped in the truck and spun around to rescue hubby and spedaway ala !! I do not camp there as in the past. San Quintin must
not remember these incidents as he questioned my memory of these incidents! They did happen and they fill the hotels in El Rosario. Stay informed

while we are on this topic...
some friends of mine were camping somewhere up north several years ago, over 10 yrs as it happened before I came to baja.
It was a couple in their early 20's on a surf trip camped remote and alone. in the middle of the night 2 guys approached their camp armed with a
shotgun, they told them to get out of the tent and fired a shot to let them know they were serious.
They got out of the tent and they guys started talking in spanish about tying him up and raping her. She underrstood enough spanish and freaked,
running off into the darkness and then sneaking back to the car, she was so freaked that she took off and left scott behind and didn't realize it
until a 1/2 hr down the road but was afraid to return. Scott managed to flee when the car took off. The bad guys shot out the rear window and trunk of
the car, scott ran to the ocean and jumped in, swimming out into the darkness, the bad guys tossed the camp, stole the majority and fled on foot into
the darkness.
the next morning the girl returned with some locals and found scott hiding in the bushes outside the camp armed with a big stick. needless to say they
hightailed it north and never returned.
I have no idea where this happened, but it happened about 5 hrs south of the border. Sort of puts them around san quintin.

How about El Pabellon RV Campground, on the beach south of San Quintin I have camped there many times, alone, with my dog. The sand dunes and vast
white sand beaches are beautiful. There are usually other RVs there and the owner's family lives there too. Lots of Pangueros' pangas on the beach
there too.
Any problems reported there?
