Sad news for those who have used Baja & back Caravans

I heard this as a rumor a few days back, but now it is confirmed. Barry Monkman of Baja & Back caravans died of a heart attack just south of the border on his way back on a caravan a few days back.

His wife, Vanda, understandably is devastated & requests no phone calls at this time. You may email her if you wish.

Oh my, this is a shock... Barry was just posting on Nomad on this latest caravan as well... Vaya Con Dios amigo!

Barry and Vanda made a special trip to Tijuana in 2006 to join us Nomads at Viva Baja Cactus for dinner... from my web page:

Art ('awfulart') and Max Kurillo enjoying the feast.
Just down the table from Art are Vanda and Barry ('Baja&Back')
who lead RV tours from Vancouver, Canada.

David K - your events you and Antonio set up are legendary. Perhaps, you should set up more, because at the very least, we get to see Nomads happy and smiling and eating together. Think about it.

I am so sorry to hear this. They stayed here in Feb. I did not get a chance to meet Barry only Vanda. We had a banquet for 600 and I was only here for a few minutes. She pointed him out to me.
God rest your soul Barry.
Vanda we are very sorry for your loss.

Really sad to hear this, especially as my last post was in response to his posting about the caravan returning north. My thoughts are with Vanda and his family. RIP Barry.

So sorry to hear this. Though I never met him it was obvious he was a classy guy judging from his posts. Condolences to his family.

I would like to think that the departed are wandering in a Baja of circa 1950. If that isn't paradise I don't know what is...

I have to admit to ribbing him more than once about those caravans. However, he always responded with great humor. A sad loss for not only Vanda and others who knew him, but to the entire Baja community.
