The Magic of Todos Santos
Sedona is for Mystics
Todos Santos is for Mistakes
Janet and I have been living together in Phoenix for almost two years now. That’s a world record for me so I’ve been feeling pretty good about it. An
Email alerted us that Janet’s soulmate, Share, has moved to Mexico, Todos Santos to be exact. Share. That’s all I needed to see on the monitor to know
my life was over. It’s not Share, it’s Sharie or Sharee or Sherie as the mood strikes her but when we first met her on the beach at Juncalito she was
touting the Sharing part and nothing more
If Sedona, Arizona is the spot where all the force lines in the known universe happily converge, then Todos Santos is the next celestial intersection;
maybe just a pit-stop for all that power. From Janet’s sighs and squeals and “shut ups” on the microphone with Share I knew it would not be long, in
human terms, before I would have to decide whether to be dragged along to Mexico or lose another fine young thing to the winds of chance.
Todos Santos is not a bad place to be dragged along to. I had spent a couple of weeks there a few summers ago while traveling about Baja California
looking for fun and tequila and myself. I found the tequila. By the time I had to leave I couldn’t afford tequila – might have gone blind drinking
that cheap cane liquor if I hadn’t caught the bus back to Arizona when I did. Most of the time I could find some work there with my brother in law in
Scottsdale who wires houses and small stores for a living. Now, since the accident, I get a check once a month like clockwork that allows me a nice
cushion in between jobs.
Just as Sedona is a magnet for mystics, TS attracts healers of every stripe. When I was there I was in need of healing, finding a center, improving my
Tao, my Qi but I lacked the funds and the proper belief system. I was bent on self medicating with Mexican weed. It was not altogether satisfactory –
there is either no good marijuana in Mexico or there is and they won’t sell it to me. I just remember spending way too much money for sticks and
stems, burning my mouth while never quite getting high enough to warrant the expense, the risk and the side effects.
So while I was contemplating a revisit, I could say I was in a better place this time – perhaps more open to the total TS experience. On that previous
visit I was invisible to the serious healers who saw me as someone on a permanent Spring Break; not able to be received. On balance I would say parts
of TS were invisible to me then. To learn all about it I did not have to go online, take a tour or buy up all the eco/holistic mags. All I had to do
was hang with the girls.
Share picked us up at the airport in Los Cabos. Sounds like she rolled up in her Camry, smiling and waving. Seems she talked some old Mexican farmer
into swapping some massages for a run in his cattle truck. He was not a happy trucker – our trip to TS was organic, as they say, as we rode in the
back of the old rusty stake bed fighting a blizzard of cattle food chaff as the girls screamed back and forth over the roar of the non-muffled blue
beast.
Over the next couple of days I was brought up to date. I vaguely remembered the many Retreats, Workshops, Gatherings, and Sessions which were
advertised on a jam packed calendar of holistic events all around the village. Now there were more – more and more of everything healing. As Janet and
Share gabbed I learned about a new Reflexology School in town, a new Animal Communication workshop, new Reiki and Seichem masters, a new and
powerfully mystical comadrona, magical mid-wife, Bridal Mysticism, Biomagnetic Modalities and every known kind of Yoga.
All that stuff is pure hocus pocus to me but I was intrigued by the Animal Communication thing. I was thinking “Horse Whisperer” and that’s part of it
but Share told Janet that those who know The Way of The Animals not only talk to the animals but they are Talked To by the animals. The woman who runs
the workshops encourages students to listen to their dead pets; to find out about the past lives and experiences of the animals. Personally, I
wouldn’t know what I would expect to hear from Freckles, my long-dead c-cker. Wasn’t me that jumped the fence, got hit by a car. Cleo, my 85 pound
Burmese Python snake always seemed a little sullen to me except at mealtime – if and when I was successful at finding her live animals she recognized
as prey. A baby rabbit almost gnawed her head off because she didn’t know it was a food item. Dead or alive now, I’ll bet she’d be too embarrassed to
talk about that episode.
To stay on their good side I let Janet and Share use my Visa card to attend a Reiki Master’s workshop. To say thank you, Share, who is also going for
her certification in Reflexology, gifted me a free Reflex Session. Perhaps a warning would be appropriate here about allowing yourself to be practiced
on by an intern – she must have thought more is better and I could hardly walk for two days. I will say that the pain in my feet put all my other
pains on a lower level for awhile which had both girls beaming with holistic, organic, free-breathing pride.
A feeling of wellness hung over our little yurt like a magic garland. We all chipped in, it was crowded but cozy. I walked to the beach almost every
morning after tea, coffee, toyasoya, whatever just to be alone with my thoughts, give the girls more space to commune. About a week ago I took off for
the beach but forgot my shades – I was almost at the water’s edge when I noticed. I walked back to get them and was more than surprised to see the
girls all atangle on the futon. When I came back the second time they didn’t try to hide the fact that their relationship had gone to a higher level.
Well, you guessed it – this bus back to Phoenix thing is getting to be a habit. Before I start pulling wire again for Corey I might jump on my big
road bike and make a run up to Sedona. After all, I can start every conversation over drinks with “I just got back from Todos Santos…..”
If it was anybody’s fault, it was mine. Don’t have to be a Doctor of Biochemistry to figure out that if you introduce certain organic compounds to
others in the right medium, leave them alone where the forces merge and work their magic, anything can happen. It’s all so, what can I say, organic.
P.S. They both begged me to stay, or at least leave them one credit card. But I told them the cosmic dice had been rolled and I could do neither. I
had a date with destiny.

Good line but didn't this appear a little while back.? You will get hustled
by the Gurus and Savants, etc but hey, that's cool if they have long flowing hair and are Golden. I laughed before and now! It's all good, verdad!
I canceled the credit card that I left behind... Smiles Tio

Your story blew my mind. Shades of the 60's. God, it would be great to be a free spirit like you, but, the scary thing is, that if I tried it, I may
not want to come back to my reality. Living in the moment like that must be a freeing experience, but it scares me to death. Maybe that's why I
fish.

Todos Santos held an alure to me. I'd heard that it was tha Carmel of Baja. I drove through there in the middle of the night driving a chase truck
for the Baja 2000, it looked magical. Several years later my wife and I visited it. Litter everywhere, shops selling the same old merde, found some
pretty good, but expensive chow. Some dreams are better off of left alone. I like Sedona for a visit now and then, I learned that those mystical
spots around Sedona were discovered by a rather heavyset woman and all of the spots are within a hundred yards of the road. Who knew that engineers
and heavy equipment operators possesed such psychic abilities.
PS: If you're in Sedona check out Jerome, AZ, the road through town is like Lombard Street in San Francisco.

Todos Santos is ,well, kinda like Haight in the mid sixties, but with Rasta Hair
boy's and girls, selling the same old tired recycled tye dyed t shirts and organic
love beads. Groovy and Far Out , in the 60's , but a bit mundane now. Artsy galleries
that have paintings my 15 year old could paint better ,and maybe sell more!
Todos is worth a visit though, good tacos in a couple of locations! I did buy a super bedspread, that actually didn't shrink up much in cold water
wash,
A one of a kind ,I was told, by the young lad salesman,Hand woven by his Momma, I shoulda adopted him, as his speel was
as good as P.T. Barnum's. If it continues to shrink,I can always use it for a table
napkin in my restaurant.
