It often is best to start at the beginning! The who, what, when, where, and why parts may have been covered... but maybe a why for you personally would be interesting!

I suggest starting a new thread for any more additions or other's reports, as the volume of maps and photos in this one are making it slow to open.

I will post a link here to the next installment of my trip report, which will be 'The Discovery'! I hope you, bajalou and BajaCat get more added today... and where is Phil, stuck in the kitchen of his cajun restaurant in SLO?

Separate threads from the each of you would be GREAT!

I am happy for all of you Indiana Jones that did this run.

Looks like BajaLou was out pacing the group there......what a swell guy he is.

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

Like Elbeau, I, too, anxiously await the results of trip I had really wanted to go on. Looking at the map again, and coming from Palm Springs, I think it would have been both fun and about the same distance to join Lou in San Felipe and come up the Gonzaga route.

Hey DT, how about this? Think scrolling credits rolling off towards the horizon and music by John Williams ...

"A long time ago, on a peninsula far, far away, there reigned an imperial empire, whose isolated outposts ..."

Cue appropriate music for the Nomad crew.

David,
How about...."There I was, on the verge of the grandest adventure of my life ! I wasn't sure my chicken legs would carry me over the torturous terrain of Baja, but I knew that I would survive as I had my desert survival hat....you know....the cute one with a skirt on it...."

:?::?::biggrin::biggrin: :saint::saint:

That looks like a great area to explore. I rode into the school area in 1989 and looked around. But, as you know me well enough, I didn't bother to hike around.

It's good to see you getting out and about.

How about these possibilities (modified to fit your cast of characters):

"Somewhere in la Mancha, in a place whose name I do not care to remember,..."

"Elmer Gantry was drunk."

"Tell me, O Muse, of the man of many devices, who wandered full many ways after he had sacked the sacred citadel of Troy."

"Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus,..."

"Call me Ishmael..."

A few more ideas for you just popped into my head. Not necessarily opening, but to be interspersed throughout. From the best classic movie ever, Casablanca:

"Major Photos has been shot. Round up the usual suspects."

"Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

"Well, Elbeau, after tonight, I'll be through with the whole business and I am leaving finally this Baja."

"We'll always have Baja. We didn't have, we, we lost it until you came to Santa Isabel. We got it back last night."

"What in heaven's name brought you to El Volcan?
My health. I came to El Volcan for the waters."

IMDB.com is a treasure trove of great quotes.
