I loved that. Had no idea they air drop with their dogs. 30,000 feet though? Geesh. The genetically modified/engineered breed they created to sniff explosive residue in the air was interesting.

Some Random Facts About American Military Working Dogs

The dogs that you see at the border, working with Homeland Security are left in a kennel at the end of the day. The officers do not take them home.

But, it is exactly the opposite for the ATF. The dogs go home with them and are part of the family. They are valued as much for for socialization and friendliness to the public as for their drug and explosives sniffing ability. I saw a recent interview with the head of the ATF dog training program and he started to tear up when he described the "eagerness-to-work" and enthusiasm of his four-legged partner.

This interview was filmed during a regular training exercise for the ATF. The guy that was elected to be the "rabbit" was fit and fearless, a real confident jock. He ran all out and was taken down by the dog in less that three seconds with a bite to the upper thigh (he was wearing a protective suit, no injuries).

After the chase, when he was interviewed, you could see the shock and confusion in his eyes. He said to the camera, "If they tell you not to run, don't."

To Pakistan is a female German Shepherd.

She flew back with the team and got a Prime Rib dinner that night.

What you need is an Australian cattle dog, we had one when we camped out under a palapa at zippers in SJC in 1973, we got good surf and no one robbed our camp, he even bite one poor girl, but that just added to his reputation as a bad ass.

Bob Guccione, the Late Founder of Penthouse Magazine

Was interviewed years ago by, I think, Vanity Fair Magazine, in his lavish mansion in the Hudson Valley in New York (this was before his bankruptcy).

The article started with a photo, shot from overhead, of him sitting on a chair on a huge Persian carpet and surrounded by five Rhodesian Ridgebacks lying on their sides in a circle all around him, facing out.

I traveled all over Baja with 2 different Akitas for decades. I never lost a thing to thieves. I also never got hassled by any branch of the govment. They were very smart to respect those 120 lb. enforcers.
