Rain
Rain
Let me tell you about the rain. First hour or so was nice but then it was like somebody pulled the cord on an emotion machine. Lost the TV signal so I
punched the CD remote, content to hear whatever disc came up. Just as the sky took on that mid-day twilight the color of dirty snow, the speakers on
the patio began to squeeze out some Wynton Marsalis as though some curse was being levied upon my soul.
After a couple of sappy ballads I began to moisten up as though I had long ago written the things just for that horn, that guy. They seemed to draw
the day around me as the horn competed quite nicely with the rain on my tin roof – the rain that roared me out of my siesta a couple hours ago and was
now hushing to a whisper – brushes on a snare.
Each tune was building on the last – overflowing with the plaintiff sounds of misgivings, promises unfulfilled, missed chances and wasted summers. The
ground around my yard was spongy now, the fire tree flashing jungle greens. The spadefoot toads had caught only that rare signal, real rain, not
garden hose rain, that woke them from their burrows. As they hopped about I wondered how long they had been buried there; a year, two, more?
A little toad found my side patio awash and took his first swim with an abandon that reminded me of the ineluctable drive he has to mate as soon as he
can find other toads. That reminded me I once had similar urges that often took me to dangerous pools and paddies. The wait was never years between
swims. That thought pulled up an errant smile just as the disc changer found those dopey Buena Vista guys. Basta! I turned the TV on and found the
signal returned and ready for me to bury myself in the drama of Picker Sisters.

Picker Sisters?!?! Really? Things must be tough in Baja. I watched about 30 seconds of that show and had to change channel. Nice eye candy but not
much else. Now, before everyone gangs up on me watch the show a few minutes..........

Sorry Tom, with all the posts about the show a bunch of people like where a guy eats monkey poop sandwiches, much to the delight of the viewers, I
couldn't decide about Picker Sisters, Swamp People, Swamp Wars, Nose Picker Sisters or One Armed Catfish Nudelers from Jersey Shore.

Well, I don't know diddly about Picker Sisters.
But I sure know about the rain and fine writing, nice piece Osprey, one of my favorites that I have read by you, I guess because I could identify
with the story line, love the rain and the little frogs that come out after the rains. Made me smile, thanks.

I think "LAMO" is what kindergartners call each other?
"LMAO," however, has an entirely different meaning. Not to be confused, though, with "LMFAO" or "LMBAO" or "LMHO," of course.
Nuance and all.
Strictly for you, Barry, enjoy! : http://www.netlingo.com/acronyms.php
