HAVE A SAFE INDEPENDENCE DAY SEPT 16

Today is a day to party down, folks. Be aware on the roads. Very few out there will be seeing straight.

How true Dennis. It started here last night! Seems like every beer store had people loading multiple cases into their trucks! One 1.75 litre Antillano and a case of Coke and I was finished with my shopping.

First ambulance just went by all lit up on his way to the Buf. Somebody probably tried to take the shortcut to the end of the road.

I got outta Dodge just in time last night. On the way north, Juan at Acambaro told us he's having a big party tonight featuring a whole roasted pig and a dance floor (separately, I believe, but if you want to dance with a pig, I'm sure you can find what you're looking for). 100 pesos buys you all the tacos you can eat and all the nortena music you can dance to.

By the way, anyone partying down and driving south at night better watch out for the new road construction on the hill north of Santo Tomas below where the checkpoint used to be. They've built a huge concrete abutment that sticks several feet into the southbound lane so that southbound traffic has to veer into the northbound land to get around it. I was heading north and at the abutment a southbound semi went by and we missed each other by maybe two inches, even though I was real tight on the right side. I project one of those little roadside shrines for that spot unless they gouge out a little more room on the northbound side.
