Bunch of my cousins and families headed down Friday....there was a wait for 1.5 hours to get in. Otherwise the road looked good up to Rio Hardy

Take photos at the end of the pavement... note the distance south from Puertecitos fork, or north from Papa Fernandez' road/ or the Pemex... please.

We drove into Alfonsina's from San Diego yesterday. The pavement ends in TWO places, believe it or not: It ends at a bridge under construction just south of Huerfanito. You go around that in about a half mile and then you get back on new pavement which ends in dirt about 15 miles from our front door at Alfy's.... There is no grading past that...just the old dirt that we love so well.

I wish they would leave it the way it is......

Someone reported the construction crews re-graded the road all the way to Papa's, so no more slow/ rough road... Sounds like that wasn't the case?

David:
Yes...THAT ROAD has been graded all the way to Rancho Grande....much better than before. There are only about three places where you need to get off of cruise control, believe that or not!....wow.

But.....right in front of Rancho Grande is a "ski jump" in Mex 5 that was left there after the last 1000....if you hit that at 50 MPH in the dark you are gonna wreck something and maybe yer butt too.

We drove from San Diego to Alfy's in 7.5 hours including stops at the border to pay an import fee, gas at San Felipe and a half hour at the check point north of San Felipe.

This is ridiculous.

half hour at the check point north of San Felipe.

From the traffic was it slow going at the checkpoint?

The check point was slow...only using one lane until they had a quarter mile backup of motor homes and buses. Then a soldier...not an officer...noticed and waived people into a second lane. Pretty obvious that the tourist trade and customer service ain't on their list of priorities! :-)...but I'm glad for what they do and they are always professional and courteous...good people.

Most of the traffic was northbound...Mexicans going home after the holiday.

Deno:
Please tell them that the new road is infested with Chupacabras and bandidos who hide in the canyons waxing their mustachios and polishing their pistolas so they can stick up yer basic Gringo who stops to take a leak or have a beer. Please tell them that the beach is dirty and the water is infested with great white sharks and killer sting rays laying just under the sand. Then, on top of all that, the local Gringo residents are nasty in the extreme...been here for about 50 years, crusty, mean, cussed, profane and usually drunk....good place to avoid.

Just watch out for some freak running up and down that road....wearing a Viking skull cap......otherwise......only thing down there that will bite ya is that wild Mother in Law that I dumped off into the brush....years ago.
