We have the Spot Connect and luckily haven't had to use it in an emergency but we do use it a lot just to check in with family when we're out of phone service for long periods of time and it works well. The real test would be the emergency response. FYI, there are additional charges for the emergency services. An excellent Christmas gift for sure.

we have had it for years and love it! I love it when my husband uses it when hunting and I know he is OK. We use it in Mexico so friends and family can see where we are. Nancy

I couldn't see anywhere on the www ...how much the service is per year. Might be a good thing for us to get.

GRACIAS for the reminder, Terry. I had this item on my "buy" list before we ventured to the Baja bush, but it slipped my mind.
Looking on line, West Marine also has them and also offers the $50.00 rebate.
After all the reviews...this item is a real life-saver if needed.
Again, thanks, Terry (bajaguy) [now I know why bajaguy has that avatar, his Baja-living knowledge is immense].

It's $99.99 for one year service. In addition, rescue insurance is $12.95 per year for the account holder, you can add additional persons and The Spot Connect has a type and send that you can send a text or email and that was $49.99 for I believe 500 messages, only 41 characters though.

SPOT SAR Insurance

Is a good deal for SAR and Evacuation from Mexico, and the price is right for the SPOT account holder and family members

Ive had mine for 4 years and use it often on the bike but luckily never have had the unfortunate opportunity to see if the 911 feature works in Baja.

BG: I come from a long line of Jayhawks and I believe it's "T'wErnt".
Maybe you were thinking of 'twasnt'?

Edit: I got my Spot via BG's recomendation - I might upgrade to the Spot Connect - anyone use it with an Android based phone?

Mood: Needing our Baja fix

[*] posted on 12-3-2011 at 03:12 PM

We bought our Spot for this trip so the kid could follow us. We stopped in Yuma at a friends place and and sure enough we received emails from both of them that they had tracked our progress. And also a bad time for driving to long one day, so sometimes too much information is not good either.

We also bought the SAR and Evacuation service just in case.

So if you see a red Dodge with a Alaskan camper wave or something we would like to meet as many Nomads as possible. We should be in San Felipe tomorrow afternoon then down to Gonzaga bay from there we will see. Cheers, Anne & Mike
