Whenever I cross the border, I am waved into secondary. I drive an older camper van (1990 Dodge Road Trek), and now I just expect it. So secondary it
is, to be inspected and subjected to intense inquiry and interrogation. My cousin who traveled with me recently suggested it may just be me and not my
vehicle that gets the inspectors`s attention. So, profiled it is, what the heck!!!
BTW, I think to profile is a much more practical method, than a random method. With random, babies diapers are searched for bombs, and old ladies are
patted down. I know the USA is doing a good job, but I think they SHOULD profile, like the Mexicans do to me .

Campers, RV's and Vans always go to secondary. My SUV goes most of the time. I think they just like to look inside.

I have been profiled for my look for many years,most of the time I find it humerous, I chose to wear my hair longer and have facial hair which has
nothing to do with my lifestyle.
it is interesting the assesment people make about ones personal apperance. for the most part I find people who make those kinds of judjements are
the vunerable ones it has allowed me to get closer to them than they are ready for.and find out who they really are.

BTW, I should have made it clear, I`m talking about going southbound, into Mexico. Sometimes I get it northbound too, but always southbound!

I have a suburban with factory tint windows and a pickup with a shell plus travel in a motor home thusly I am on first name basis with the guys north
and south.

I drive a truck with a camper shell and am almost always pulled into primary inspection southbound even when I get a green light.

Two years ago, south bound SY/TJ, sent to secondary. While I was dealing with the inspectors, my co-pilot noticed that EVERY van was sent to
secondary.
I have "a friend" who imports more wine than Mexican law permits regularly.
Thank goodness that my "friend's" Porsche 911 is so low profile as not too gain attention.

I get sent to secondary every time going north. I have a pickup with a pop-up camper and a trailer with 15' boat, camping gear, kitchen sink etc. I
have long hair and a beard and have been told I look like trouble. Doesn't really bother me, I have nothing to hide but sometimes the extra time
spent gets under my skin. I am sure on the CBP computer screen it pops up that I have been in secondary every year for the last ten. Maybe this year
they'll give me a "get out of secondary free" card.
Going south the last two years at Tecate I have been stopped and asked for boat registration. I don't think the Mexican border guards even looked at
me, just saw the boat and waved me over.

You might consider hosing down the van. Get rid of the aromatic fish smell.

i too going south get a second look
i have a lid on the bed
they just need to look in
so if there is ANYTHING "iffy" i just pull into secondary and have "the team" take a look...several time its "just go"
