Break-Ins in San Antonio Del Mar (near Colonet)
I just received an email from our caretaker that while he had gone into Colonet for provisions, 8 or 9 houses were broken into. We do not know the
points of entry yet nor what is possibly missing.
I guess someone or some persons were doing their holiday shopping...

That's a bummer . Hopefully if your house was one of the houses entered, that they didn't damage anything, and only 'junk stuff' was removed.
Happy Holidays anyway. There is always "the brighter side" when you throw away the material things, and be thankful for your health & your
friends and relatives who love you. Everything else has little value in the 'greater scheme of things"!!

Most old houses have a reinforced storage area inside with steel door to keep valuables safe. It might be a pain to stow stuff but worth it in my
estimation.

Have a friend who built a house on a beautiful deserted Baja beach and did just that. An elaborate safe room with reenforced concrete walls, floor,
steel door, the whole schmeer. The robbers waited until he left after the season, brought in a gas torch and cut through the door.

Linda,
Really sorry to hear about that! Not a good thing and it always leaves someone with such a rotten feeling just knowing they were there.
If there is a bright side, no one was there so no one was hurt.

My friends house thats north of Colonet was broken into and about 2000 dollars worth of stuff was taken. They found a Soriana military discount card
on the floor that had been used to try and slip the door lock. This house is a little isolated as well.
I'm not saying it was the military, or someone in the military, oh heck, I don't know what I'm trying to say.

My neighbor leaves his house unoccupied for about 6 months every year while they go to thier house in Idaho, he has been dong it for 20 years, never
broken in to. You have to choose a good neighborhood to live in.

Update on San Antonio break-ins...
It occurred during the day, no broken-in doors or windows. It seems like someone had some locksmith experience. Total of 5 houses violated. It is
our belief that houses that had vehicles parked nearby were bypassed. Based upon reports from our caretaker, most items taken were numerous
electronics, DVD/Blueray players, binoculars and cash in addition to food, liquor, and clothes. Until everyone can survey their houses, this is the
best information we have until each owner returns. The police were called and one person who was detained by a caretaker for a neighboring property
has been arrested.
Our area is rather remote, and while there have been break-ins in neighboring properties, for over 10 years, we have been relatively safe. There is a
pack of dogs on our property, however, our caretaker says only two are good watch dogs, the others would lick an intruder to death. All this will
change immediately.
