DEVILS TOWER, WYOMING - A CLOSE ENCOUNTER

There is an unusual reason for this thread, other than because I am addicted to posting on this forum.

I was watching some popular movies on Sky a couple nights ago...one of which was "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". As you will recall, it featured the 'Devil's Tower' of Wyoming as the event location.

It reminded me of a recent RV camping/fishing trip we were on and took a nice detour to see the Devils Tower in Northeast Wyoming.

Here's some photos of that part of the Road Trip to look at with your Nomad newspaper:

Devil’s Tower

A natural monument, Devil’s Tower was designated the nation’s first national monument. In actuality, it is the core of a volcano exposed over millions of years or erosion brought on by the Belle Fourche River and weather. At its base, a paved walking path surrounds the monument at a distance of one and a quarter mile. The tower height is 865’ high.

Today, Devil’s Tower is best remembered for its star role in the 1978 movie, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind. “ Devils Tower Volksmarch was voted third most favorite in the US by participants. The tower is located 61 miles east of Gillette off I-90 on Hwys 14/24.

Hey...Anybody from Wyoming here today?)

There is quite a recent popularity in 'pup' trailers..we are seeing them everywhere in the American West.

"Bravo, Pompano! You found it...and after all those martinis, too?"

"Yes, I did...plus a very scenic campsite for you to enjoy nature". :smug:

Other nearby 'encounters'....

There was a prairie dog town next to our camp...they're great moochers!

Naturally, the young whitetail fawns are not camera shy...so cuter...so much little hams!

These bruisers are not camera shy either, but I am definetely buffalo-shy. It is good not to be stupid around them....

Close Encounters With Trout!... are part of Wyoming's allure!

All in all, a visit to Devils Tower is a few bucks at the pump these days..... but 'priceless' to the Nomad in all of us.

I'm going to watch more of these 'classic movies'....so bring your camera and sunblock.....???

Way-cool for sure, but unfortunately some of us wandering nomads require a wee bit more space....

Indeed, we may have seen that one...along with a few others that are popular to a few campers.. (for what reason, one can only fathom...there's not enough room in those sardine cans to change your mind.)

A long time ago...those were the normal sized campers, like this homemade one my Dad built for his & Mom's first non-tent camping days. Photoa taken during the Dirty Thirties. Dad's camper was a Greyhound Bus compared to the Pod campers of today.

I do have a small trailer that 'would fit this tiny camper category', I suppose...just need to clear out a few hundred goose decoys first.

For my two cents....Bigger IS Better! When deciding what to pack...pack it all!
