After various phases of collaboration between Emerson College and Rosarito, the RediscoveaRosarito Project became a case study in other universities such DUOC in Chile and Blanquerna School of Communication in Barcelona, Spain.

The case studies are based on the crisis communication Project lead by the professor and politics communication expert Dr. Gregory Payne. At the same time, the case study touches points like crosscultural communication, grasroots communication and public affairs.

"Rosarito has become a symbol of the new values of Baja California, in which the people in the community work with both sides of the border" says Gregory Payne in a meeting with former Mayor of Rosarito Hugo Torres, and along with students and professors from China, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Spain.

According to Hugo Torres, after 4 years, the project has been very positive and has contributed to a change in the public's opinion at a national level. The RediscoveRosarito project showcases the lack of knowledge in crisis communication and represents a step forward in the collaboration with professors, students and professionals around the world. During his time as Mayor, Torres was the alternative face to a perpetuated mediated reality of violence and drugs to the foreign media.

"Most frequently the American media were basing the stories not on objective journalism mediating and perpetuity of legends of violence towards Mexico. " says Hugo Torres

"Mr. Torres provided and important credible source on the ground that the American media could contact to verify stories and facts", Dr. Payne stated. Since Mayor Torres leadership in crisis communication credible spokesperson, other political and business leaders, as well as ordinary citizens, have evolved in to credible sources and contacts for the media to more accurately tell the stories.

During the meeting, experts and students spoke about the many programs executed within the Rediscover Rosarito projects: fundraisers in Boston, art shows, film festivals and more. These reflected the many facets of the project as well as the collaboration with Rosarito through culture, art and people.

The Rediscover Rosarito project has been presented around the world in conferences in Barcelona, Boston, Portugal, Los Angeles and more. It has been showcased in case study books and published in academic journals specialized in strategic communication and crisis management.”
