Baja Bash
I know this organization peees a few nomads off but nonetheless I came across this on surfline and thought I'd share. If you're near San Diego and
need to get your Baja fix this looks like as good a crutch as any in lieu of the real McCoy.
'June 2nd Event in San Diego to Benefit Baja's Coast and Ocean and Feature Menu Designed By World Renowned Baja Chefs, Guadalupe Valley Wines and Live
Music By Nortec Collective-Hiperboreal
The Baja Bash, a charity benefit organized by WiLDCOAST, a conservation team that conserves the coast and ocean of Baja California, will bring the
best of Baja's world famous cuisine and music to San Diego on June 2nd, in celebration of our shared coastline.
"Since 2000, when WiLDCOAST was founded, we have seen Baja California undergo a creative boom. Chefs like Javier Plascencia, Benito Molina, Solange
Muris and Diego Hernandez have become celebrities in the gastronomic world. At the Baja Bash they will join Grammy-nominees Nortec
Collective-Hiperboreal in celebrating Baja's comeback." said Serge Dedina, Executive Director of WiLDCOAST and author of Wild Sea, who has written
extensively about travel and tourism in Baja California and Mexico.
The Baja Bash will take place at the Port Pavilion on San Diego Bay and will feature the sustainable gastronomic creations of Baja's new generation of
rock star chefs, including Javier Plascencia, of Mision 19 in Tijuana who was recently featured in the New Yorker; Diego Hernandez, the lead chef at
Corazon de Tierra in the Valley of Guadalupe; and Benito Molina and Solange Muris, from Manzanilla in Ensenada.
All three will be featured in the May 28th episode of the Travel Channel's No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain.
"WiLDCOAST is holding the Baja Bash as a way of celebrating the Peninsula and benefiting its stunning coastline, which includes ocean treasures such
as San Ignacio Lagoon, a gray whale birthing lagoon, and Cabo Pulmo, the only coral reef in the Sea of Cortez, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage
Sites," said Dedina. "There is really no other place in the world that has the wild coastal beauty of Baja California."
The Baja Bash will also include the music of Nortec Collective: Hiperboreal. Nortec's music was featured in the film Babel starring Brad Pitt. The
band has played to sold out audiences from SXSW in Austin to Tokyo and throughout Europe.
To compliment the sustainable menu, the Baja Bash will feature wines from the Valle de Guadalupe, including Adobe Guadalupe, a premier winery from the
area as well as from Casa de Piedra, Paralelo Peligroso Tequila will create a special 'WiLDCOAST margarita' for the event.
WiLDCOAST will also be honoring Telemundo journalist Maria Celeste and Dr. Octavio Aburto, researcher at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography,
fortheir tireless efforts to educate the public about the importance of Baja's coast and ocean.
Proceeds from the event will benefit WiLDCOAST's continued efforts to conserve the most threatened coastal and marine habitats in San Diego and Baja
California. Todate, WiLDCOAST has helped to preserve more than two million acres of Baja's most scenic and wildlife-filled coastal and marine habitats
including Bahia de los Angeles, San Ignacio Lagoon, Los Cirios Coast, Cabo Pulmo, Bahia Concepcion, and Magdalena Bay.
Event sponsors include Baja.com, Clear Channel, Peligroso Tequila, Alaska Airlines, Adobe Guadalupe, Acuacultura Integral and SDG&E.
"Baja.com is so excited to be able to sponsor the Baja Bash and the timing couldn't be better," said Jim Pickell, CEO and founder of Baja.com, a
Baja-based company dedicated to helping travelers enjoy an authentic Baja California experience. "Baja is undergoing a virtual renaissance now with a
renewed interest in the region's gastronomy, culture, eco-adventures, lifestyle and unique accommodations and we're looking forward to celebrating
everything the region has to offer."
Information and tickets for the Baja Bash can be found at http://www.wildcoast.net."

I almost missed this. Lots of good work and the promotion of Conservation. Serge did a book signing tour I saw last summer. It hits home harder when
you've seen Baja Riviera in La Ribera or dived on the Cabo Pulmo Reefs! We should all support their efforts. Shari's post today further sends the
message, Arriba Wildcoast! Tio
