I grew up in S Calif. and learned early not to litter. When I moved to Wyo. in the mid seventies I was surprised that the biggest litterers were the locals who, in my mind, would be more appreciative of the natural beauty around them. Not so. They would get offended if I was caught picking up behind them and quickly labeled one of them "California environmentalists".

I have pictures taken last year downwind of the Cody landfill of hundreds of plastic bags flying proudly on the sagebrush.

I really appreciate the people who throw litter on the side of the highway. I have been out of tp for 3 weeks and the litter works great. Especially the broken glass.

My father wore a Smokey Bear hat to work every day. If he'd run the Poll's the American hierarchic ladder of disrespect would have had a new lowest rung; Rapist, Child Molester, Atheist, Litterbug.

I had paid my dues for a lifetime picking-up other peoples litter by the time I hit high school. You don't leave stuff laying around when you live in a Park and go about with a fanatical park ranger.
