USGS says 5.0 on richter scale. But it was very shallow. The shaking could be worse than the number suggests.

The USGS yesterday said over 300 quakes in the Imperial Valley/Mexicali area within the last 36 hours, or so--------now this one----------the
peninsula is moving northwest again!?!?!?!?!?!? or gettin ready too?!?!?!?!?! Soon Ensenada will be in the USA.

The Northridge quake wasn't rated at a high richter number but the yanking around was savage for a bit. Maybe we'll hear from somebody in the area to
get a Modified Mercalli type description.

I heard from two in El Centro, and one in the little town of Imperial, just south of Brawley. Nothing of note broke in their homes, but they sure
were nervous last night and the night before. Lots of shaking and sub-surface-noise. They lost electricity for a little while in both towns, so it
was hard to find out what was going on, and the radio stations, other than NPR from San Diego, was pretty mute on the happenings. THAT was the
biggest factor in the scary night--------not knowing what was going on in general, they say.

A 5.2 earthquake rocked the Sea of Cortez Sunday night, about 61 miles east of San Felipe.

We lost all of our dishware being thrown out of the cabinets. Number of other items knocked off of tables, walls etc but everything still OK so far
as of today, Tuesday. Hopefully, the aftershocks will stop and give everyone a break.
Some are wondering if all of the geothermal plants are upsetting the balance of what is going on underground causing these fault lines to take on more
earthquakes. Don't know enough about geothermal effects to really say this is or isn't an issue here in Imperial Valley. Good thing is no deaths of
this writing and hopefully that will remain so, as you can always replace things but not people. "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777
